Would you give up your sense of taste if you never had to eat again.

The other day in my psycology class, an interesting thought was brought up. The idea was that if you could, would you give up your sense of taste if it ment that you would never have to eat again for energy or substance. It would bring your body weight to the normal level for your size, but EVERY taste would be no more (even chocolate).

I personally would give up my sense of taste for this because eating and prepairing to eat takes up too much time of the day. I would miss the chocolate :( , but I think it would be worth it.

I wouldn't give it up because I like the taste of some food " mainly chocolate " but then the food you don't like the taste of you would beable to eat it "It has no taste".

No sweet stuff anymore, shorter breaks at school... One of the few moments in which the family is together is lost. I rather eat. Then again, anyone who weighs way too much wouldn't agree with me. And everyone would look similar. No slim people, no fat people. No bullying fat kids anymore, but it would be boring.

GIVE UP TASTE?! NEVER EAT AGAIN?! ARGH!!!!

*To minuttes of cursing later*

Okay im calm now. I would never accept such a deal. I would like the part not being with my family but still. Even that is'nt worth it. You lose so much! And never to drink cola agian? I could'nt live with it! No more eating chips and cakes? No more choclate or candy? No more dreamy steaks. To lose taste and a reason to eat, would take away one of the three things i value in life! Never shall it be done!

I never thought of that before, but I would still stick with my original opinion of giving it up my sense of taste. My family gets together a lot besides eating. The loss of lunch at school would stink, and so many people would be out of jobs. If it was a personal choice and each person could choose for themselves, it would be different, but as it is... I'm not so sure anymore , I might change my opinion.

Eating is a significant part of social life. Even people who live lonely, miserable lives have some social contact with others purely because they need to eat. Eating also, for most of us anyway, is an enjoyable sensation, a snack to reward your hours of monotony, a favorite (even the fact that something can become favorite is worth noting) meal when you're feeling down, or to celebrate smething happening. Take away the necessity of food and you take away a significant portion of the economy, people's reason for working so hard, and one of those fundimental things that make us alive. Some may even continue the act of eating despite its uselessness simply because of this.

Eating, like so manyother things humans do to survive, has been turned into an art. So has entertaining ourselves. To lose that would be deadly, and, especially, don't forget that even if you don't need to eat, your sense of taste will augment your taste of smell, as well as allowing you to do basic chemical tests. If it tastes good, it's probably not toxic. that means that you could probably eat it, which means you could probably touch it or be around it without too much harm coming to you.

So, no, I wouldn't.

I have a both opinions on this:

1. For:

Eating could be considered as a generally bad thing. It has destroyed many people's lives (read any 'real life' media coverage) and 18 stone 8 year olds are a bad thing, you would all agree. It also has an impact on school life. Look around the playground and marvel at the amount of sugar and fat being consumed, and see how this reflects on the lack of attention in the classroom. Anyone who lives in Britain or northern Europe would see the improvement by Jamie Oliver in schools, and I am one of the very few schoolchildren who agree with him.

2. Against:

As already mentioned, eating is an important part of social life. I personally find it shocking that, for example, a certain gravy advert, that shows people making a 'pledge' to eat at the table one night a week. And to think they weren't even doing that before! Look out your window. See that 15 year old chucking chips around the street? You can bet your bottom dollar his family eat of their laps in front of the TV. Gordon Brown? Unlikely. Ask yourself the question; who would you rather be?

Eating is not really a bad thing, it is the people who do make it a bad thing for themselves. Some people have the choice to eat what they want, if they eat to much the suger foods and they pay the effects of it  . When people eat, it brings the family together and most likely is the only time that the family is together during the day or days ;) .
