kingtitan
Ok so i recently downloaded/installed CM partners basic mod. Not a problem with that. However, I want to create my own custom npc companions but oblivion keeps crashing every time I try to get to the character's world space (for both custom races and vanilla ones)! Here is what I would like to do:I love using Slof's playable xivaili and I really want to create my own companion that is xivaili. I made the one i wanted and started up the game. It crashed.I tried to make an orc companion since I thought the custom race was the issue, but the same thing happened. Game crashed when I attempted to travel to the interior of where I placed him. How can I remedy this really rather annoying issue?
Hickory
Read the tutorial that comes with CM partners first. Then learn how to create custom races. Last, create your partner using only oblivion.esm, cm partners.esm and your custom race plugin. This guide may help, but is slightly dated, so do not use CM Partners.esp. kingtitan
I have already read the tutorial for making CM partners throughly and I have read that link as well. Neither have helped remedy the crashing. And the problem with the esp/esm thing is that it doesnt and cant work like that. I have already made the companion mod (i fixed the orc one, not a problem anymore) however, I need to know if I will need wrye bash to make my xivaili companion usable. Also, if anyone could tell me how to install wrye bash that would be great. I read and tried and read and tried some more but i could not for the life of me figure out how to install it and python properly. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hickory
I cannot begin to answer the question about your Xivilai companion without more information. How was it created? What resources were used? Does it rely on resources located in a different mod? What masterfiles does the plugin list? etc. Installing Wrye Bash is as simple as double clicking on 2 files. The Wrye Python installer, and then the Wrye Bash installer. Nothing could be simpler.
kingtitan
The mod was created based strictly off of the included tutorial for custom companions from the CM mod. No non-vanilla armor or any other mod dependencies besides the CM esm and esp and the actual playable xivaili mod. It has dependencies on the CM partners.esm and Oblivion.esm masterfiles. I downloaded Divine Avenger's CM xivaili mod which worked fine, but when I made an cosmetic edit to his characters, the game crashed like usual. And as far as wrye bash goes, I did just that. Installed python (just went to the site on tesnexus and installed it with default settings.) When I went to download the wrye bash 219 installer, once it downloaded it said about four different components (from python) were missing. The wrye bash launcher wouldn't open either. originslayer
I would suggest reinstalling wrye_python along with wrye_bash, unless you're certain they are already installed correctly. Make note of python's installation path. Then, go to your Oblivion program folder and open the sub-folder titled "Mopy". Create a new text file there and enter a single line, (according to your particular setup) such as: c:\python26\python.exe bash.py then save the text file as a batch file. (I called mine bash.bat) Be sure to add the python installation to your system path, like ;c:\python26 Best search "System Path" if you do not know how to do this. Then simply run the batch file and all should be well. I don't think you'll need wrye bash to make your companion usable. I've only added races to other mods, like Succubi and several others into Miniature Necromancy Revised. I just create a difference plugin and get rid of the player control type scripts/spells for the custom races. Meh, no real help there, try TES4EDIT and make sure there are no references marked <unable to resolve> within your companion plugin. Especially the race, body mesh and textures. I really hope that I don't have to have wrye bash, it seems like it is more trouble than it is worth. Can you maybe explain how you made your custom race cm partner work without wrye bash? originslayer
Apologies, thought I made it clear. I haven't made any custom companions of any sort! I've only added races to other mods like companion, quest and a few castle mods. I would make the companion plugin according to directions (which I haven't read), first, before adding the race, making sure it works. Then in CS, load your companion plugin along with the race plugin. Make your desired changes, then create a difference plugin, starting with the race plugin and ending with your companion plugin (here is the step I take to add races to various mods). Plus, this way you'll not need the race plugin as a master because you'll be referencing any external resources directly. I guess this is about the same as bash merging, dunno. Wrye Bash is great for a few things. But then, my knowledge of it and experience in using it are limited. Go ahead, get it working, you won't regret it later. kingtitan
Well I may have discovered the source of the issue but im not exactly sure yet. I tried to make just a normal NPC Xivlai. Pretty basic construction of that kind of an NPC, but when I went in to the game, the NPC was not even there. Now I have to figure this one out... kingtitan
Ok just to resolve this issue, I got it to work WITHOUT wrye bash. Here's how:Go into the CS and check Oblivion.esm, CM Partners.esm, CM Partners.esp, and the .esp of the custom race of your choice (I used Slof's Playable Xivaili)MAKE YOUR CUSTOM RACE .ESP THE ACTIVE FILE. THIS IS CRUCIAL FOR IT TO WORK.Make your custom CM partner following the instructions provided with the mod download, like usual. And voila, you have just created a custom race CM partner.
