Peregrine
Some of us ARE working on new animations - but the default walk, run, hit, etc. are hardcoded. They can be replaced for EVERYONE at EVERY level, but not just for your barbarian at level 10. There's not much point to making them for that reason. One can add new anims to a scripted mod like Actors in Charge and trigger them on a one-by-one basis, but that's basically good for taking screenies. Myself and a friend are working on some better hand-to-hand combat anims, and a few special idles for my mod, but that's really it. Does the "hit" part include all of the attack animations? It would be impossible to (for example) add a new attack animation for my new crossbow? I'd have to replace one of the existing ones, screwing up the game completely? Or to add a thrusting attack for a rapier, I'd have all the sword types using that same animation? Guess that's another thing added to my "Why Oblivion Sucks" list... Attack animations consist mostly of standard swing standing, forward, backward, left, right, power hit standing, forward, backward, left, right, sneak attack, forward, backward, left, right for each of the weapon types. When the weapon hits something (like a shield) a new animation replaces the attack animation causing the weapon to rebound. Either way, they're all hardcoded to the individual weapon types, so changing one would affect them all, and you wouldn't be able to adjust their dependancies (IE. switch 2 hand weapons to use the animations for 1 hand weapons, freeing up a set of animations.) So yeah, it does suck, and there isn't anything we can do about it.
Povuholo
I guess the best thing you could do for crossbows is replacing the staff animation with something that doesn't look too weird on both staves and crossbows. Mmm... Yeah that sucks.
stefbuik
Can someone fix the jump animation? Yup..exactly my sentiment.. The "jump up an do a poopoo" gets quite annoying after a while. Bethsoft should take a good look at "Jedi knight academy" for some outstanding(no mo-cap!!) animations of fighting, jumping etc etc. within the constraints of a game-engine. Even GTA-SA has better jump animations.(And that is REALLY saying something)Yes, I know.."not realistic" ..my foot!..since when are goblins and minotaurs and sword wielding skeletons, realistic? thefinalconflict
Yea exactly my point,i mean i'm okay with most animations but the jump is one of the animation i just cant stand, but anyway, all i wanted to point is how everything is so easy to mod....but they had to use the most omfgness unmoddable animation system on earth. That is quite sad. :(

That is quite sad. :(They did so for the reason of marketing. It gives them something else that modders can't do, so that should they feel like it, they could release a plugin with new creatures or idles, and there wouldn't be anything else out there. Just like an expansion, people buy it because it has new meshes, creatures, only because free mods rarely contain such things, and because there will be new mods created that use those meshes, creatures. Look at how many people bought horse armor... Enough said. For the record, "everything" is so easy to mod because they included a construction set. If the only utilities available were made by modders, there would be alot less that you could do, and alot fewer mods. Also, everything isn't easy to mod, there are quite a few things which are a pain to do, or can't even be done. It only seems easy because you have thousands of mods to browse through, a website listing all the scripting commands, and communities where you can get help.
