bben46
Based on the model number, (EX266AA-ABA a1512x) your HP 061 pavillion - found on the HP site here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00679525&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&site=null&product=3207936&key=null It's from about 2006 or about 4-5 years old. And was considered a media PC at the time. The video listed in the specs is integrated - meaning it is built onto the mother board. That doesn't mean you cannot add a separate card though. It does show a PCI E x16 slot available which can accept a PCI E video card. The pic shows a fairly standard case so hopefully a standard size power supply will fit.Don't make the mistake of buying a cheap no name power supply as you will regret it. I have seen some real garbage sold as power supplies. Check on reviews for the specific Power supply you want first. For some reason, the specs don't show the Power supply. Maybe they were ashamed of it. For a gaming computer with a good video card, 450 Watts is bare minimum with 500 watts or more preferred. If you haven't already, consider upgrading to 3 or 4 Gig of RAM. WinXP 32 bit (or ANY 32 bit Windows )can only use about 3.4G of RAM, so 3Gig - should be sufficient. Your motherboard can handle 4Gig maximum.
latexxxglen
Okay i have a problem, I bought a ATI radeon 4670 2.0 graphics card and a 430W power supply.I installed the power supply and turned on the pc and it worked so i turned it off to put in the video card.I put in the video card but forgot i had to install the cd for it first. Anyways none of that matters right now, i need solutions on why my computer is starting up and going to the windows log in screen and then turning off. sometimes after i log in, sometimes before. i even took out the video card and it still turns off. Then i took out the new 430W Power supply and put the old one back in just to see if its the power supply unit but no it still turns off randomly. evilneko
Don't worry about not using the CD. You shouldn't use it anyway, the drivers are likely old. You said you swapped back to your original power supply but did you also remove the graphics card? Even your new power supply might not have enough power to handle the video card, the requirements for the 4670 list 400W+, and since PSUs are often rated by peak wattage rather than continuous, 430 is not a big enough margin. Anyway: Return your system to your original configuration, with the original PSU and using integrated video and see what happens. If it runs fine add the new PSU and test again. If it doesn't, re-seat all connectors. By that I mean unplug them and plug them back in. Get in the habit of checking and re-seating things every time you work on your computer, it'll save you time and trouble.
