music and freezing problem

You're not alone. I also have the same problem. Actually I got 2 issues; one would be the crashes and other is the sound problem. The crashes could be due to hardware conflicts and I know some steps to check about this sometime. The music is the main thing that keeps me from playing long. Everytime the music loads or changes, the game freezes a few seconds then moves again. This is really a hassel for me and robs the gameplay away. Since there are a lot of creatures in the wilderness, then I always end up waiting for the game to move again. I can't even find the settings for the sound since it doesn't show up from the settings menu, hopefully turn off the music and see if it works. Never had this problem before I upgraded my video card and before my bro downloaded a program with a virus attached to it. I Already reformatted my pc and I'm running one with a pentium 3GB processor with 1GB of ram. Is this still a hardware conflict or some worm that can't be taken out by just reformatting? :mellow:

In the oblivion.ini file you can find in your 'my documents/my games/Oblivion' folder, change the line bMusicEnabled=1

to

bMusicEnabled=0

Thanks a lot man! Just turned off the music and this did stop the freezing. Only trouble is that I don't know if I'm attacked or not since I don't have the music cue to let me know. Especially when travelling outdoors on horseback. Just a minor thing but at least I'm able to play the game without the freezing. I'll try updating my sound card driver and see if that can solve this problem. Many thanks man! ;D

I actually prefer playing with the music off, because you can get caught by suprise. I'm walking along the road, and suddenly hear some footsteps. I turn around and see a khajiit with a giant axe hacking at me, woah!
