Zapata935
I, for one would be glad not to see Lucien Lachance, he reminds me of a Jehovas Witness bible salesman with the sole aim in mind to bind me into the bloody Dark Brotherhood. I only pray that there is no Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim, as I am sick of so called friendly NPC's leaping under my sword thrusts at the very last split second, just so the game programmers can give you something to do later on! That thought process sucks! It is an un-natural thought or deed to want to murder a friend or fighting companion, I think. Striker879
I agree about how suicidal those friendlies can be. Now that I have some decent restore health on touch spells I tend to hang back and let them to the fighting while I do the buffin'. The worst ones to be around in a fight are the legion patrols ... one wrong move and "Alright you criminal scum ...". They respawn so I tend to buff the bad guy until they're dead and then loot their armor to sell. Kinda' like a 'two mints in one ' situation. If you're looking for a way around Lucien here's a UESP Wiki excerpt that may offer a solution: You can choose to kill Lucien Lachance when you first meet him; this causes a new quest update telling you that there is no other way to join the Dark Brotherhood. Therefore, the entire Dark Brotherhood quest line is no longer available. Edited April 1, 2011 by Striker879
Zapata935
Yeah Nice, but if you've been in real combat action, you take care of your mates above all! You don't sit back and watch them take incoming! Sorry if I'm going off on one, but it's true! Best Wishes Zapata935
Striker879
I'm 100.1% with you on that in real life (coming from a total non-combatant). That's just my way of dealing with the game's quirks.
Zapata935
Dear Striker, sorry I could not continue the conversation about death wish companion NPC's the other night as I had to bug out quick, but I find the subject interesting, as in, is it a deliberate ploy by the game programmers, or is it really a nemesis of theirs, ie they can not control the scene with another human mind behind the steering wheel? I understand your tactic of standing back, then applying the field bandages afterwards. I tried the tactic of running off from the crowd and attacking the furthest enemy to avoid being classed as a murdering scoundrel! By the way, I do understand that we are thrashing away at pixels and pieces of computer code, but I guess that is why I love this game so much, after five years, I never tire of it because it makes you feel involved! Striker879
The game certainly makes you feel involved. When I happen across one of 'the poor unfortunates' laying dead beside the road I always role play 'severely wounded' instead and don my paramedic cap. After I give them a little console lovin' I switch hats and become 'defender of the travelers' sweeping ahead cleaning out the baddies. If I run across one that hasn't been killed I drop my plans and provide escort. It's always simpler to sweep ahead and take care of things than wait for them to get involved and then try to play field medic. You should see me when I'm escorting one going one direction and run across another going the other way (wracking my brain trying to recall how far back along the road I've swept clear ... I know most every traveler and their destinations). Sometimes I'm a one armed paper hanger.
Zapata935
"Pull youself together man! Your a hero, not a roadsweeper!" you have to ride into town on a white stallion, not a funeral cart! On a serious note, what are you hoping for in Skyrim? Best Wishes Zapata935
Striker879
I only started playing Oblivion recently (even though I've owned it for quite a bit longer ... one of my quirks, buying things and taking a long time to get around to trying them). Skyrim will probably be a year or two old before I buy it. I'll save money on the game, it will probably be a GotY edition or something similar and it will give me plenty of time to research the optimum system specs for running it. I tend to build 'one step back from the bleeding edge' machines but about a year or two after they were almost bleeding edge (saves me on component prices). You could say I'm alive and well and living comfortably in the past. ROADSWEEPER!!! I take umbrage!!! Not only am I the Arch Mage, Master of the Fighter's Guild, the Gray Fox AND the Champion of Cyrodiil, I am the Paramedic of Cyrodiil and Patron Saint of all travelers. Takes up half my encumbrance just carrying all my different hats!!!
Zapata935
Dear Striker, you sound a smart guy, I had a tip once from a very wise man inside the computer industry, "When a product is launched, hard or software, it takes 18 months or so before the research and development costs are recovered, it is only then that they can retail the real cost of the product". I like you can wait that length of time, because of that knowledge that the rich young "got have it all" kids are paying the R&D costs! God Bless the got to have it all kids, I say!
