antonkr
In TES4 what I would do always is rob a few gardens and make over 9000 stamina potions that I can than sell and become rich enough to buy a city. Potions always bothered me for being so easy and onse you are good at it you can make a potion out of.... an apple. How do you think Skyrim will handle the alchemy system? AngryBritishAce
I heard it was removed but I don't think so. There has been no word of it and Magic skills are now down to 5 (from 8 ), mysticism has been removed and enchanting has been put in. That means that 3 others will have been removed, so alchemy may be gone Edited April 3, 2011 by AngryBritishAce
NAPALM13092
Alchemy is still in but it is a stealth skill now. Bethesda wants every skill set to have some form of crafting. So stealth has Alchemy, magic has Enchanting, and combat has Armorer/Blacksmithing. We have gone from 7 magic skills in Oblivion to 6 in Skyrim not 8 to 5. The magic 6 skills are now:Enchanting (crafting)Destruction (same as before)Restoration (same as before)Conjuration (same as before with some old mysticism spells like soul trap)Alteration (same as before with some of the old Mysticism spells like reflect and telekinesis)Illusion (same as before with some of the old Mysticism spells like detect life) Edited April 3, 2011 by NAPALM13092
stars2heaven
I don't find that Oblivion potions are OP'd once you make it so that you can obtain very few strong potions that have instant effects from your inventory. Having restorative potions take effect over time and limiting the number you can consume makes it quite balanced without eliminating it's usefullness. In Oblivion, this takes modding to accomplish. In Skyrim maybe it will be this way. If not, then it will be easy to accomplish via mods.
Genzel
In Morrowind you could literally make potions that would increase your stats into the millions for days or more. I once got my intelligence and magicka so high my game crashed. Chances are it will be even less exploitable than Oblivion.
MarshyMan
I was never big in alchemy during any of my Oblivion playthroughs, but I never tagged it as a stealth skill. Anyone care to explain how it could be used as one? I was really fond of all stealth aspects and would love to know if it may be an improvement or not. I'm not sure how it works as a stealth skill either. I can think of how it might fit with the creation of poisons, invisibility, and chameleon potions. But at the same time alchemy itself seems very magical to me (no matter the type of potion), whereas the creation of the potions I mentioned isn't exactly stealthy in and of itself, though it may benefit a stealth character. Then again, those things might benefit any type of character... It may just be that Bethesda wanted one crafting skill for each archetype...enchanting is clearly magical, and blacksmithing would clearly fit better into combat than magic or stealth. That just leaves alchemy, and since no crafting skill imediately comes to mind that is obviously a stealthy one alchemy has to find its new home in the stealth tree. Mickeyshyloh
In my opinion, alchemy has nothing to do with magic or enchanting. I.E, in the way I see it, alchemy is 'medicine' made with some water, a mortar, and a pestle, while using herbs and foods as ingredients. I find the potions to be more akin to home-made Aloe Vera or other medicines (like cough syrup) than that of adding magical properties to weapons; TL;DR, Alchemy = Medicine, Enchantment = Magic. midtek
Yeah, I think Alchemy is fantasy applied chemisty instead of casting a spell on witch's cauldron. With right ingredients and right recipes, it would be able to brew a nice potion for everyone. It sounds more like a survival skill now. If we are lucky, exploding / stinky potions might be added, like in THIEF games!
razorpony
I play as a stealth/assassin character and I always max my Alchemy in order to make poisons and healing potions. Even on more powerful enemies that can't be felled in one shot, Weakness to poison + damage fatigue poison + damage health poison means you can just watch them lay there and slowly die. Tis awesome. -Razorpony
