So my game was running just fine with 0 problems and then i'm in the underwater home mod which again had never caused problems, then my game crashes... upon restarting the launcher the game got past the intro screens then sticks on the main menu for a few seconds with no menu options to which it then without pressing anything jumps to a black screen but with the health bar, enemy damage bar, and AP bar visible and the DLC pop ups show up and after clicking ok on them the game crashes to desktop... What in the sam hill is going on has anyone EVER had this issue?

I'm having the same problem as well, I actually uninstalled/reinstalled, verified the game integrity via Steam, and disabled/reenabled all mods (which took a while); I've had no such luck. At first I would get the black screen with active HUD, but now it won't load the main menu. I don't feel as if the load order caused it, because it ran fine before. This problem kind of just happened out of nowhere. I need my FNV, as I don't have internet at home and FNV is my only entertainment.

I fixed the game but took a few hours, so basically i manually deleted everything from the fallout nv folder then uninstalled all mods in the manager, after that i did a clean install from the fallout nv disc and then went back and reinstalled my mods. I don't know what in the hell happened to cause this but i think it was a damaged file that resulted from the crash, i couldnt find which file exactly but it must relate to the load of the menu itself. if you had this issue this seems to be the only fix i've found; kind of a pain but it works.

Purr4me I am not sure I understand what you are saying.

I thought I was having a similar issue but mine looks like a graphics card issue.

If you are still having issues after removing mods check this.

The saga continues. I had a group of mods installed everything was going fine. I tried to load a save the game crashed. I restarted and had the black screen. I deleted mods uninstalled all the mod managers removed local content deleted all Fallout folders and then reinstalled on Steam. I am still getting a black screen.

Is there any other place besides the common folder on Steam and the FalloutNV folder in documents that needs to be cleaned out?

I can get the game to load in windowed mode but never in fullscreen. It is very frustrating that it worked and now just does not.

I just experienced the exact same problem. I am in the process of deleting everything and doing a complete re-install of New Vegas. I was wondering if anyone ever figured out what causes this problem.

if one mod dies i could take the whole game down with it so thats the risk of lots of mods at once

Please note the date of the previous post, and see the Nexus "Terms of Service" about not resurrecting old threads. The primary reason is that the original thread participants are seldom still around, and it is unlikely that you have exactly the same setup. Details matter. Unsolved problems are usually due to vague descriptions of symptoms without any underlying details. And unless you are providing a definitive solution or significant new solid leads towards such a solution, it does not justify resurrecting an old thread. Even in the latter case you are better off starting your own thread and providing all the details requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article.

In general, if you haven't changed anything about your game and it suddenly stops working correctly you need to look to other causes: such as software updates to Windows, programming libraries such as ".Net", or hardware drivers. Older games eventually get dropped from product testing.
