bchick1
All, Yes.... Yet ANOTHER OBSE issue !!! But know that I usually do not go to forums except as a last resort and after due diligence researching the web .... . Well, THIS IS IT !!... (1) I did a direct download from Steam of 'Oblivion GOTY'. The version shown on screen is 1.2.0.416. I then downloaded OBSE v0019b direct from Silverlock.org. (2) I installed all OBSE files, except the SRC folder, in: D:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion\ folder (my typical Steam folder) (3) I confirmed that the Steam 'community option' is checked for 'Oblivion GOTY' and for my Steam account globally. (4) Since I am running WIN7x64, I make sure all runs as 'Administrator' and that the OBSE .dll's are 'unblocked' (5) I launch the game using Steam shortcut (not obse_loader). (6) And, TADA! OBSE does not load ... this is confirmed by (1) none of the OBSE dependent mods work and (2) the 'Suprem Magica' mod yells at me and (3) an OBSE check .esp confirms OBSE not loaded. (7) The OBSE log has the 'checksum' error in it .... Since I have used OBSE many times on Oblivion before (not the Steam version ( I gave my Oblivion DVDs to my Granddaughter) and also I have used it on many installs of the Fallout series, I am not a novice to this . I did send off an email to Ian of the OBSE team but I doubt I will get a reply. Does ANYONE have ANY idea what is wrong with this &%$^# OBSE???? Thanks Muchly B. Telyn
I am using the same version you installed, and I am a Steam user. My best guess is you might have installed OBSE incorrectly for Steam. . -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The instructions for installing and running OBSE differ based on whether you are using a retail or Steam version of the game. Double check that you did the Steam Install exactly, not the retail install. IF YOU PURCHASED A RETAIL (NON-STEAM) VERSION OF OBLIVION: 1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_loader.exe to your Oblivion directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder, and should contain files called "Oblivion.exe" and "OblivionLauncher.exe".2. Run oblivion by running obse_loader.exe from the Oblivion directory. If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Oblivion normally, just update the shortcut to point to obse_loader.exe instead of oblivion.exe. IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION: 1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion".2. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.----------------------------------------------------- You said: "(2) I installed all OBSE files, except the SRC folder, in: D:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion\ folder (my typical Steam folder)" The .dlls and the loader need to be in the Oblivion folder, not in a subfolder. If that is not your problem, my next guess would be that you are still having difficulties with the User Account Controls, despite running as admin. It is possible to relocate your Steam installation without downloading the game again. If you follow the procedure I am about to link, all your mods and saved games should be fine, and all that will happen is that Steam will update briefly. I would recommend C:\Games\Oblivion as a good location. That location is UAC free. No more messing with permissions. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=231 It worked for me. bchick1
Telyn,Thanks much for the reply. None of the suggestions worked but thank you for pointing out that I cannot read instructions!I had really just passed over the particulars about only needing three items in the Oblivion folder.I also moved the install to C:\games\steam as per Steam arcticle you linked me to. At this point, I am thinking about getting ahold of the GOTY retail DVD's and installing, at least as a test. Even though there is no registry entries generated for OBSE, I am wondering if I am in one of those situations where an O/S rebuild is necessary. I will see how the retail DVD install goes.. Thanks again for the input ..!! B.
Telyn
Don't feel bad about missing that. I did too the first time I installed for Steam. I'm just sorry it didn't help you. Did Steam update itself? Did you have the retail version on this same computer before you switched to the Steam version? If you did, it is possible when you uninstalled it, it left junk in the registry. Your gut feeling seems to be that you have a problem in the registry. Gut feeling is often right. Here is Bben's Reinstall Procedure. Highly recommended. http://www.tesnexus....icle.php?id=240 Steam shouldn't be a problem. The OBSE team worked directly with them.
bruisedooze
I would also like to add that some of the mods that check for certain version of OBSE fail the version check with the steam OBSE even though it's there and running. There have been a few occasions where I had to delete the check in the script to get things running, particularly in OMODs that do a check. bchick1
Telyn,Well..it is now working! I am not sure what did it, but after moving Steam to C:\games\oblivion and installing the three OBSE files the mods would (it seemed) still not work. So I reset all permission on the 'C:\games\ ...' folder and all subfolders and then it all worked. So 'Supreme Magica', 'Enchantment Restore over Time' etc all work now. BTW, I am interesed in where I could change the script to disable the OBSE check. That could come in handy. B.
bruisedooze
It's not so much a script to remove it, but rather removing the check from the scripts that have the checks in them. If you have an OMOD that makes a check you can easily change this in OBMM, the check appears at the start of scripts and it's pretty visible. Just comment out the whole If statement. If it's built into the mod itself, you can remove it through an editor. There may be a utility/patch that does this or bypasses the need, but I'm not sure.
