[100+ Mods] Modded Skyrim / New Save = Infinite Loading, Smoke (Skyrim.exe has stopped responding)

So last night I decided to start on a clean sate and mod Skyrim again for a new playthrough as a battlemage.

 

I got maybe just over 100 mods - I have less plugins, but just re-textures etc all come to about over 100 mods in total.

 

When I click "New Game" I hear a book page turn sound effect, and it's stuck just showing the smoke loading screen.

 

I ctrl+at+delete and choose Task Manager, and it shows skse skyrim has stopped responding.

 

I use Nexus Mod Manager to install the mods.

 

I use LOOT to sort the master list/plugin load order

 

I use(d) Wrye Bash for a merged patch, but then switched over to TES5Edit to see if it would fix the issue, none of the patches fixed the infinite loading error.

The following is standard trouble shooting for issues not pinned to an obvious source, verifying your game files through steam is only step 1 aka the easy step.

  • First - have you verified your game files through steam and updated to the latest patch?
  • Second - uncheck all your mods, start a new game, save after the chargen. This will be your 'tester save.' Do Not Overwrite or Delete this save.
  • Third - Enable five mods.
  • Four - Go into game with your tester save. Run from one end of the game world to the other. Go into a few cities. Interact with a few things that are related to your problem. See if anything crashes/doesn't animate properly.
  • Five - No sign of problems? Repeat 3-5. It crashed or something's not right? Go to step 6.
  • Six - something not right? uncheck one of the five mods then go back to your tester save, repeat step 4.

Continue until you have found and fixed your error.

1. What about mods that are part of other mods?

 

1a. Or mod compatibility patches that go between 2 mods?

 

2. Don't I need to keep making patches when I de-select re-select certain mods?

Starting from nothing towards your full load list (that's already been sorted with LOOT) means you'll be coming from your biggest most stable esm/p's first. Patches will come at the end of the list and if you realize you're loading a master file that conflicts with a previous file you've already tested you can add the patch to the 5 mods you're currently checking. No patches will be necessary to check before the masters they require.

 

It's pretty simple. The key here is to know exactly what you're dealing with and be able to check and/or problem solve as you go. So no more dropping a bunch in and not being able to pin down which of that bunch is screwing you up later.

Do this along with SKSE and the memory patch.

 

 

Absolutely not, with SKSE's Memory patch that mod became obsolete. Only use one, not both ;)

Is Safety load a needless duplication or does it have some other function that s not a part of the Sherson solution?
