starstrong
I am a long time player of XCOM....I played the original and it has always been one of my favorite games of all time. I was excited to download the mod and play a bit more challenging game. What I have encountered is not just challenging it is bordering on the absurd. 16 or so swarming thin men with plasma weapons, acid breath, etc. etc. against six or so LCPL or lower xcom agents is a joke. Why? What is your point? The mod is cool and all but you went a bit too far in my opinion. I turned the difficulty setting all the way down too and that makes no difference. LiQuiD911
The difficulty and mission count are customizable. Try using secondwave options like the one which spawns less aliens and gives you 8 soldier slots from the start. There are also secondwave options to give soldiers and interceptors an aim bonus (I always use The friendly skies)
Krazyguy75
Another point: Long War looks like XCOM:EU, but it is about as different as the original game was. It really requires a fair amount of learning from scratch to figure out how things work.

I went back to playing xcom/ew classic ironman after 6 attempts at playing Long War. I couldn't get within a sniff of success. It was like bathing in a sea of enemy combatants. And mind you -I was playing at the most basic level. The developers keep saying, well, tinker with the .ini file. I've got a better idea; how about producing a final that an advanced player has a shot at WITHOUT modification, and then put in one or two layers of harder level options. Dethraker
My only thing is I have beaten Long War(mind you not the final version, haven't tried been modding instead), and so have many others. It's not impossible, just a different and punishing experience. As the LW team has said in their info page, Long War is not for everyone, it was developed as a much harder and longer XCom experience for those wanting more depth and challenge. Anyway, they won't be producing anything else, the Long War team is actually working on their own project now. There are some other mods available and more coming that might make things a bit simpler, or more challenging, but there are also mods available to make tweaking the game even easier to do. It's always been about allowing you to create a challenging experience you can enjoy(if you don't like the default difficulty), otherwise they wouldn't have made so many things editable within DGC.ini.
