gromulos
when you clean DLC's it's not like you're cleaning a regular mod. A regular mod adds to the DLC's. When you are cleaning any mod you are removing links, those broken links are what causes your game to suddenly start acting up when your character is level 30, 40, and so on , IE later in the game. Believe me people I've been doing mod help for years now and I have seen this happen again and again since the very beginning. There are other numerous people in the chat room that will tell you the same thing, some of those people learned the hard way exactly as I stated above. I NEVER clean any of the vanilla files and I have never had any problems from not doing so.

I NEVER clean any of the vanilla files and I have never had any problems from not doing so.From what I understand the only "links" you are actually removing when cleaning are records that exist in the esp/esm that are identical to ones in Skyrim.esm hence named ITM Records.By definition of identical these are records than don't need to exist and getting rid of them should instead make it easier for the game engine to look up these records (using knowledge of game making here..)The second step is Undeleting records, usually navmeshes. From what I know about navmeshes they shouldn't affect the game's stability as they exist for NPC pathing. Here I'm not exactly sure why it is beneficial or not but I shall look into it. So yes mods modify dlcs, but the "cleaning" that you do doesn't seem to me like it is interfering with that process. Of course if I missed something and important links do get broken then I retract my statement. I am not intricately familiar with how xEdit cleans files so you might be 100% right but it just feels odd to me.

I'm still not entirely sure what's causing the crashing; I uninstalled/reinstalled the game, uninstalled/reinstalled all of my mods (ran it as vanilla and it was fine), updated my mods to newer versions, followed gromulos' guide, and Skyrim is still crashing Edited September 26, 2015 by Dragonborne654
andr920
Were you running with cleaned dlcs?Download Skyrim Performance Monitor and run it alongside with Skyrim so we can rule out and memory related issues.

andr920
Missing one is normal. If you followed gromulos' guide then all you can do now is test mods 1 by 1 (or in batches) till you find the culprit.

Alright thanks I'll try that and maybe find some patches that I need or forgot to download.
