Mod Request: Hair physics

All those amazing textures and details are put to shame due to the plasticky hair on character models. Ever since the game was released the lack of hair physics or even proper cloth physics really got to me.

I wonder if the current tools would allow such modification. If hair physics could be possible for this game It would be awesome!!!

Respects to all modders!!

Creating the physics is not a problem, the problem is getting them to work with the game. Frostbite isnt a very mod-friendly engine and adding new data usually crashes the game.

Atleast as far as i know - but i do however know that hairs with altered physics crashes the game.

Thanks for replying..

I remember when the first few mods came out for this game it would always crash upon installing, however later modders figured out better ways to add and change textures and tints on armor, cloth materials, even skin and eyes. I guess hair physics hasn't been considered much as of yet. Really hope it could be made possible, it would really look awesome ingame.

It is considered, the problem is just that the game won't accept new data at all, which is why all mods are made by changing/editing the existing assets (and we can only change the looks, we can't add or remove poly's etc either). Believe me, hair modding would be a ton easier if this was solved, but the game engine just doesnt make it possible as of now.

Thanks again for replying.

Well I really hope modders would come up with ways to mod this game without such annoying restrictions.

Developers should realize how modding has become so mainstream for PC games, it is not an option anymore but almost a necessity. By inducing games with such restrictions they only suppress the potential for exploiting greatness. Future of PC games should be modding friendly in every way!.

I agree, but BioWare nor its developers are to blame on this one. Frostbite was pretty much forced upon them (from what i've understood) and it's mainly a FPS engine but have also been used for racing or strategy games, and thus comes with restrictions for RPGs. I think DAI is actually the first RPG game that's been built and released on Frostbite. I hope they have made changes to the engine in development of MEA so we don't meet the same issues with modding there as we do with DAI though.

I see. I hope so too, and i'm so waiting for MEA, hope they've made a whole lot of changes to Frostbite 3 for that with regards to making it modding friendly. I understand that it is difficult to mod Frostbite and that's where I would blame the devs, because if they took this seriously they could've provided some sort of a toolkit that would at least remove some hurdles. Mods are free so they don't get anything out of it, a factor in their perspective would be that mods could be considered as DLC that they could've sold, but that's not a part of it and plus other reasons including certain pride issues devs have for their product. So devs are naturally against mods even if they say they aren't. The same has been seen with CDPR as they even promised a full modkit for TW3 but what they relased was just an excuse of a modkit which has too many annoying restrictions and can edit only two file types. So what I mean is that modding is just not in favor of devs regardless of their claims. I hope i'm wrong though.

I do hope modders would figure ways around the current Frostbite 3 engine for DAI and i'm looking forward to a pro modding future for PC games.

One of the many reasons PC gamers will always go back to Skyrim. It can always be improved upon with mods, and therefor will never get old. Them releasing the Creation Kit was by far the smartest thing any dev has ever done, and are now adding the ability to add mods on consoles and straight through the game itself (of course, all my consoles are covered in muck, and being horribly neglected, so that doesn't really apply to me). Honestly, I never thought the day would come. Figured all game developers were only focused on making their dollar. I love Bioware (fangirl status), but they're really losing out by not adding this function, as Bethesda has. If ME:A doesn't have something in the way of a creation kit, I'll be truly disappointed.
