Rawne1980
I've been hovering around Nexus for roughly 5 years now. I take all the hard work people do and put it in my game. For that, i'm grateful. That being said I wanted to try and do something myself so but i've never attempted to make anything. I didn't have much spare time until recently. I thought i'd start off small and add some tattoos to my character. I've been using a custom race so I thought to myself "how hard can it be" .... famous last words. I got photoshop and gimp, didn't know which would be easiest to use. I opened up the upperbodymale.DDS file and slapped on some tattoo's and that's where my problem is. When I load it up in game, this happens. http://i62.tinypic.com/2s6x0ug.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/148qkjd.jpg I've spent the last 6 hours trying to find where i'm going wrong but nothing I try seems to do anything. I know it's me, I know i'm doing something wrong but I can't find out what. I know this sounds incredibly "noobish" but I was just wondering if someone could point me in the direction of anything that could help me. Deleted11272243User
It's archive invalidation, open your fallout mod manager, look up for tools then find archive invalidation click on it to remove it then cick on it to apply it again. And make sure in your fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini you have this set to 1 bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1 Edited October 1, 2015 by Guest
madmongo
If it's not the archive invalidation problem, you might have picked the wrong upperbodymale.dds file to modify (easy to do if you are using a body replacer). You also need to have the _n and _sk files in the same directory where you have your upperbodymale.dds for your custom race, and make sure that your custom race points to your new dds under the race properties. I have GIMP and Paint.Net (which is not the MS Paint that comes with windows). Personally, I find GIMP to be more powerful but Paint.Net to be easier to use. That's probably just a personal preference thing though. To make tattooed bodies, what I usually do is open the dds file, then create a layer on top of that, then take the tattoo images (with everything but the tattoo itself deleted so that everything except the tattoo is transparent) and copy and paste them onto the new layer. That makes it easier to move the tattooes around and get them where you like them. Keep the GECK open with your custom race set to full view, and you can keep checking the full view check box to reload the image and see how the tattoo looks on the body, then keep fiddling with the tattoo's size and location, merge the layer down, save it, see how it looks, undo the layer merge, move the tattoo around, merge it down again, save it, see how it looks, lather, rinse, repeat, etc. If you decide to add tattoos to the hands, make sure you not only get the _n and _sk files for the hands along with the dds, but also make sure you get both the 1st person and 3rd person dds files, otherwise it goes all wonky in-game. If you decide to tattoo your head, you need the _n and _sk files again, and also need the egm files. All of the body files need to be in the same folder. All of the hand files need to be in the same folder. All of the head files need to be in the same folder. You can make these three separate folders though if you want, one folder for all of the body files, one for all of the hand files, and one for the head files. I personally keep them all in one folder just to make it easier on myself, but it's possible to have for example a custom body texture but still use the vanilla head and hand textures in their original locations. Rawne1980
Thankyou guys, it was a bit of both, I hadn't toggled invalidation and I was opening the wrong upper body to the mesh I have. You know those moments when you realise how stupid you've been, this is one of those. I managed to get it right now. I think i'm going to do a bit of practicing, it's quite good fun dabbling around with things. Makes me wish i'd started learning when I first found this site. Thankyou again guys, I really appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction. http://i62.tinypic.com/1604m5d.jpg The amusing part after all that was having my wife walk past and say he looks like one of the village people. madmongo
Young man, there's a place you can go.... Heh. I didn't think that when I first saw it, but after that comment now that's all I can see. And I've got that stupid song stuck in my head now too. Glad you got it sorted out.
