loveme4whoiam
Life is when you are not dead. Death is when you are not alive. Fair point. For myself, as a committed atheist (thats someone who disbelieves just to spite the-one-that-does-not-exist  ) i believe that we live, feeling all the pain that goes with it, then we lie down in a box and get eaten by worms, or burned to a crisp and dropped on a lawn. I did have a theory at one point in my life (not for very long, mind, i was speaking with a very... devout friend of mine) that if there is a God/Buddha/bloke with a magnifying glass up there, then He created life in order to test people. He takes the people of Heaven (that sounds like a dirty word to my ears <_< ), and puts them here, where we are tested with the most painful existence He can manage to summon up for us. He challenges us to stay the course (ie, by not going kamikazi and ending the pain) until the end, when we either get returned to the fold as better men (and women), or we are forced to repeat life again and again until we get it right. Anyway, that was my theory. Subject of a warped mind. BTW: If this is proved to be true, then i have some words for our lord and master: Windows ME sucked, pal! Think about it... :innocent:
Zmid
BTW: If this is proved to be true, then i have some words for our lord and master: Windows ME sucked, pal! Bill Gates is God?!?!?!? Well, that restores my faith in the (in)sanity of the universe.
loveme4whoiam
What? It makes sense! Think about it; he gives us life (Windows 3.1) but keeps the best bits from us. He sends us trials (Windows 95 and 98), helps us along at certain points (Windows 2000) but then smacks us in the face when we're not looking (Windows ME). But in the end, he shows us mercy (Windows XP Pro). BTW: If you believe this, i am really scared of you <_< .
Mojlnir
Life and death, the eternal connundrum. As mentioned, this topic makes us confront ourselves and our beliefs. I for one believe that there is some sort of over arching force in the universe (universes). I seriously doubt that force having any control over our lives, but it is there none the less. I particularly like a film called "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. If you haven't seen it, I suggest watching it sometime. It's very dark, but at the same time it illustrates very well my conception of the hereafter, which I think is probably quite similar to Oddguy's take on it.The soul, or whatever you want to call the thing that makes you who you are, is not a one off deal. It can come and go as it pleases, so we're never really gone...we're just someplace else. It follows then that death is the other half of the transition...birth being the first half.
