madmongo
Bethesda paid for some music, and for others they specifically chose music that had passsed into the public domain and was no longer under copyright. Any public domain music may be freely used. Modders generally use public domain music.
bben46
Allowing mod makers to use copyrighted music leaves Nexus open to lawsuits for allowing copyright violations. So, NO copyrighted music allowed without the explicit permission of the copyright owner. And nearly all music is copyrighted by big music companies who will not even bother to answer a request to allow their music to be used without an exorbitant fee. There are some performers who have not sold out to the big music companies that may be willing to allow their music to be used though. The owners of the Elvis copyrights are notorious for being tight fisted. Note: explicit permission means you must show some documentation giving you permission. "I found it on a site that said it was OK" won't fly here. An email showing the ligit email of the copyright holder is the minimum acceptable proof.
