The TPP and its effect on the gaming community.

Hello all, So I was going through my Facebook, when I stumbled across the Wikileaks page..On the page was an article about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP. Now, I'm sure there are skeptics out there that believe such things as Wikileaks are ridiculous and are not avid followers of Wikileaks..And I don't wish to debate about the credibility of such groups, however, they often vouch for citizens right to both online, and physical freedom. Which is not always a bad thing as online and physical freedom is something i believe in.

Regardless, on to the topic. On the page was a link to a youtube video to a user named Tarmack, who covers some of the topics in the TPP. I promise it's not a dry and boring video, He is playing some games while he talks about it .. Link can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DIJVetzaHs&feature=share

Now, while watching this I couldn't help but think of the Nexus community immediately. Being a on/off modder and very integrated in gaming myself, I thought it necessary as I hadn't seen a topic regarding it anywhere. Many of the things in the TPP seems to (to me anyways) cover several topics that do in fact have an effect on mods and the modding community. I encourage you to all view the video and give me some feedback on the topic, do you think this is fair as not only a consumer but as an active hobbiest, or someone who is employed in the industry?

We as gamers and as modders, should stay up-to-date on politics just as much as our games. You never know when your freedom to mod may just be stripped from right underneath you. And who wants to be put in prison for just doing what they love, something innocent like modding even? I know I sure don't. Gaming is not integral to real life. But one small right taken today, could be all of them tomorrow.

Feel free to leave any comments, feedback on the topic below!

Ehh... the TPP itself is going to impact more on intellectual property (i.e. Disney and co), multinational corps taking governments to secret courts and pharma schemes like the PBS in Aus rather than modding. If anything, those are things that are more concerning than modding, especially when it just entrenches American protectionism. Here is a good opinion piece that explains it.

Still if you want to debate about the merits of the TPP, you could just head to the debates section.

There needs be more resistance to this.

It's getting swept under the rug because this is just bad for everyone involved, willing or unwilling. Scratch that, especially the unwilling. It it makes it into the public eye then it WILL get shut down or get passed controversially.

It's SOPA and all the other things that people caught wind of and caused a fuss.

It's not even hard to get people involved. Post on social media (Twitter, facebook, Myspace, whatever) about what's going on. And if you feel a bit more strongly, contact your local politician (despite what you may think they DO work for YOU) and voice your concern. Social media links at the bare minimum but a hand written letter delivered to them would be best. Kinda hard to ignore paper.

Look up Expose the TPP for a quick resource. Main talking points should relate to biggest interest. Namely the neutering of the net to appease corporate masters.
