Random CTDs on Modded Skyrim

I CTD randomly about every 10-40 minutes while playing Skyrim. Anyway to fix this?

My computer has NViDIA 970 Card , Intel i5 4690 and 8 GB of RAM. I use LOOT to order my load order. Here is my load order.

I use Seasons of Skyrim ENB.

I don't know what your card is. Is it the 4GB GTX 970?

 

You may just have too many high graphics mods and too many spawn point mods. Even Vanilla Beth games are bug-ridden and prone to periodic crashes, always have been. Arena and Daggerfall are the only ones I do not ever recall crashing on me, but Daggerfall had critical bugs until patch 213 (iirc).

I have a different coin replacer and brawler mod and a lot more mods than you. I don't use the RND animal Loot as I just did not like it, but I do use the drinking fountains add-on. I do not use any ENBs.

I tried a bunch of "Immersive" mods that came as multiple modules in a package. Not sure if it's the same one, but I took it out at some point as it was not adding much value and seemed to create far too many groups of far too many NPCs far too often in far too many places for my tastes such that the wilderness became a crowded place. I really do not recall if I felt it was causing crashes, but most persistent crashes I have had I can usually trace to certain mods which had too many spawn points, some of which were almost overlapping with spawn points of other mods.

Also, check the size of your saved game files.

Thank you for responding! Yes it is the GTX 970 card! Hmm this is the first i've heard of spawn points. Maybe ill check what it is and see if any of my mods have that! My save files are new so I don't think that is the problem.Thanks again for answering! :)

Spawn points are basically the places in the game map where creatures appear, or "spawn". They tend to remain static until the PC approaches to within a certain distance and then start going about their scripted business. If they are part of the main quest or a side quest, they probably disappear for good when you kill them but if they are random encounters they will reappear after a certain time. IIRC, the respawn time for internal cells is 10 days, for outdoor cells it's 30 days. Also, if you strip all the plants of alchemy ingredients and mine all the ore, there won't be anymore until you leave, come back and the cell has had a chance to reset and respawn all the mushrooms, flowers etc. Same goes for random encounters with animals and monsters.

Some mods add a lot of spawn points for their creatures and NPCs. Immersive Patrols etc probably does this. If there are too many mods like this, especially if the spawn points are too close or too dense, it puts more demand on the the game engine and your system. This does not mean the mods are necessarily badly made or "dangerous", just that there is a limit to what you can have and you have to choose carefully if you get stability problems. Having a lot of heavy graphics mods can also contribute to this. I have never used Climates of Tamriel, but you should check out the feedback comments of that and Immersive Patrols. Very often, many mods can be used with no problem, but sometimes certain combinations can just be too much. There is also the possibility that a mod or two, or a few, may have issues contributing to your crashes.

You did not mention whether you used a Mod Manager. I don't use them myself and the one time I used NMM it broke UFO and SkyTEST. I prefer manual installation anyway. But many people swear by them.

I asked about the size of your saved game files to see f there was any save bloat going on. That would indicate something is amiss somewhere.

Also, did you install SKSE? That helps with memory optimisation.

As you continue playing, make frequent full saves so you don't lose too much if you crash.

Hi! Thanks again for responding and enlightening me about spawn points :D. Yes I do use NMM, not because i prefer installation that way but because I hate having to remember what mods i installed and having to reinstall Skyrim again. Also yes! I did configure SKSE for memory optimization! I'm guessing my problem Immersive patrols. I remember those spawned many Stormcloaks and imperials so maybe that is it! Ill try uninstalling it and seeing how it goes. However, my game crashes on cities like whiterun too! Could it also be cause of spawn points? I dont use any open cities mods so im not sure if skyrim would load patrols in the wilderness while being in a city like that. Anyways I will try to uninstall Immersive patrols and climates of tamriel to see if that still happens... Thanks! Ill post my results.

Climates of Tamriel is a very popular mod endorsed by over 300,000, although I have never used it myself. So I am not saying that this is the cause of your problem as I cannot know. Same goes for Immersive Patrols. If you remove them, or one of them, it's probably a good idea to start a new game from scratch.

 

If you were having frequent crashes with a fairly new game, that would suggest that the mod list you have has something about it causing the issue.

If you do what he tells you in this video, the crashes will be almost non-existent.
