graeye1
Can someone please explain in simple step-by-step language how to download and install mods or lead me to an existing explanation? What is this ModManager and how does it work? Can you have more than one mod in the override folder? I'm not a programmer or a rocket scientist, so a lot of what I;m reading is just so much garbage to me. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Which game are you talking about? edit: Now I know what game you're talking about. Here's a video on how to install them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSKeklPa70Y And about the mod manager and the override mods, yes you can have as many of Override mods as you want (but I don't recommend installing 60 or 70 override mods.) And I've never used mod manager before so I can't help you out with that, sorry. Edited April 8, 2011 by somerandomsheepthathops
Vindekarr
What game are we talking about? diferent games have diferent structures so you'll need to approach them diferently. It's a simple process: Step one: find and download 7-Zip. 7-Zip is a freeware item that allows you to unpack files, you need this to use most mods. It also does all sorts of other useful stuff, last I saw of it it was nosing about on TES Nexus. Step two: Find a mod. Mods should be installed with care. Most are compatible with eachother, but some can cause truly horrible problems when run together. Specificaly, any two mods that alter the same thing will cause anarchy. Typicaly you'll want to get a few of the "foundation" mods first which are mostly the cosmetic ones and quest/content mods. Then to add smaller mods onto that as needed. Step three: Assuming you've got a PC(AKA a REAL computer :) ) go into Computer, select your main drive, and create a folder for Mods, jsut call it Mods or something. Now create a second folder for whatever game you're intending to mod. Uninstall the game you want to mod and re-install it into the folder you created for it. This will allow you to modify it without it tripping Window's User Account Control, which is a pain in the neck, ass, and back all at once. Step four: Download the mod by Saving it to your Mods folder. Step five: Right click the folder, it will usualy be an .RAR in your Mods folder. Slect 7-Zip, Extract All. This will remove the gubbins from the .RAR, but 7-ZIP is a clever program, and you can keep the .RAR in it's tiny compressed form, and keep it as a backup. You can unpack an .RAR and infinite number of times, they make excellent backup copies. Step Six. If you're modding Fallout or Oblivion, find the newly created Texture folder, it will be lying in the Mods folder somewhere after you Unpacked it, either in the folder of the mod, or loose. Take the Textures folder and Cut it. open your folder for the game (justb open two Computer windows to speed this up) and Paste Textures into DATA in the game's gubbins. Now find the Meshes folder in the Mods folder. Cut it and then Paste it into DATA in the game's folder. If you get a message "do you want to merge This folder with This one" hit Yeqs, that's supposed to happen. Now lastly find the .ESP file in the Mods folder, cut it and paste it into Data. Step Seven: Insert the game disc or otherwise open the game's Launcher window. Select Data Files, and find your newly readied mod's heading. Click the box to Activate it. Start the game and create a new character. If the game crashes, you've got an incompatibility and need to run less mods. That shouldnt happen wiith less than 100 mods though, unless you're running two mods that change the same thing. ALWAYS create a new character when you install a large mod, this prevents glitches. You CAN play them on an existing character, but it can cause anarchy sometimes and anarchy is bad. NOTES: Mods only work on non-pirated PC games. STEAM games are harder to mod too. You cannot mod console games. Pirates never prosper, not only are they foul smelling and amoral, but they cant use mods! ha-ha! Try not to install too many naked lady mods or you'll get cooties in your HDD and that's bad. If the game shows problems, find and install the mod FOSS(Fallout) or BOSS(Oblivion, it'll fix any problems) ALWAYS READ THE README, YOU ARE NEVER ABOVE READING A README ALWAYS READ THE BLEEDIN' README OR BEARS WILL EAT YOU.It always seems hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it! It's like riding a bike, yo'l faceplant, then you'll suddenly get it and it will all feel worthwhile. Edited April 9, 2011 by Vindekarr
