10529231
Hello everyone, I recently installed Skyrim on my MacBook Air via boot camp and I have been experiencing somewhat jarring sound problems. There are no weapon sheathing sounds, dragon shout sounds, and many sounds from the player character (grunts, yells, etc.) are absent. Sounds made when swinging weapons are oddly intermittent, the sounds work at first, but if I sheathe/unsheathe the swinging sounds stop working. Also, most of Skyrim's music appears to be missing (which turns out to be very important to immersion). I'm running Skyrim on a 2015 11-inch MacBook Air with Windows 10 installed on it via Boot Camp. My original install path was the normal install path (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/). Originally, I installed about 27 mods with Skyrim, including Requiem and few survival mods. However, I don't believe the mods are the problem, because I uninstalled and reinstalled a completely clean copy of Skyrim and I am still experiencing the problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, I have also tried moving my Steam install to my documents folder (C:/Users/Me/Documents/Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/). I have tried adjusting the sound settings to several different settings (down to 16 Bit, 44100 Hz; 16 bit, 16000 Hz, etc). Nothing I have tried seems to have any effect on the problem. I suspect that the problem may have something to do with Windows 10, because I have run Skyrim with a similar setup on Windows 7 and the sound worked fine. Thank you for any help you can provide. 10529231
Nothing? I still haven't been able to find a solution to this. In addition to the above, I have also tried to run the game with virtual surround, I've even tried downgrading to Windows 7, which apparently doesn't work on my Mac. I'm out of ideas. 10529231
Well, I found a partial workaround. Installing sound effect replacers and music replacers will bring in new sound effects/music. The only caveat with this is that the sound effects/music are different from vanilla if that's important to you. It doesn't work on all of the sounds, but it works on most of them. mark5916
Maybe your Skyrim - Sounds.bsa are corrupt. Delete that file and verify your cache files through steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 That's on a vanilla skyrim. VValentour
I have this same issue with Skyrim and Windows 10 I'm on a macbook pro late 2016 model using Windows 10. It's pretty annoying... I hear music sometimes and then it will go away. One suggestion on another page was to update sound drivers. Our Sound Bsa's are fine I am not sure why they aren't loading, I'll try seing if an update to my sound drivers works... I'll keep you updatedhttps://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/521643320368046167/

Grospolina
Copied from a Reddit post of mine: I don't have a Mac, but the following thread has some solutions to the problem: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/tmbp-15-2016-bootcamp-skyrim-sound-issues.2017476/page-3 For some reason, Bootcamp has problems reading the "Skyrim - Sounds.bsa" file. Users have found that moving that file to a different drive and making a symlink can work. For one user, he found that moving the entire game to a USB hard drive worked. It might have something to do with putting the file on a hard drive instead of an SSD. It's a strange problem.
