Player Voices and Modding - How will it work?

So, our protagonists have voices, and we've known this for a while now. What we (or at least I) don't know is how we can integrate that with modding. Obviously we have never had this issue in a Bethesda game, and it could prove very problematic if not handled correctly.

So I ask, does anyone have any ideas?

A better question to ask: What exactly worries you?

- If custom quests modes are done the player voice will not matter as the player can still select an answer from the new LAME dialog interface - just no voice

- A voice overhaul would take a pretty long time to do. Besides, unless the pre-recorded voices are really annoying I don't see why would someone worry about this.

If ANYTHING, it would be funny to make a MOD where all answers by the player are followed by 'meow' or cussing. Like a 'potty mouth sailor mode dialog mod'.

It will...just work. :P

Modders will have at least 3 choices:

- leave the protag unvoiced

- splice audio from the vanilla dialogue (limited but feasible)

- get voice actors who sound like the ones in the game

My guess is the more committed you are to your mod, the more you will try for option 3. From my experience, the attrition rate for voice actors is somewhat high, mainly because (a) it's hard work (b) the good ones will eventually want to move on to projects where they get paid.

Well, those all seem like good ideas. There are bound to be dialogues in the game that are just "good enough" to use without editing them.

It will work the same as giving an NPC dialogue without a voice. Turn them subtitles on and read.

Some say that this may be an issue with immersion but I guess we'd just need a mod to turn off the VA and change the whole camera shenanigans that focusses on your PC talking.

I could also see being a dialogue system implemented where you can view your full responses before you say them when F4SE drops. I mean, the lines are there.

I VOLUNTEER TO GET DRUNK AS s*** AND RECORD THINGS FOR YOUR MODS.

Seconded

I guess leaving the protag unvoiced and having his full dialogue lines written would be the easiest way...although hundres of dialogue lines to write down doesn't really sound like an "easy job" :geek:
