Legend of Zelda Skyrim project official thread

Seeing as how the ordeal with Hyrule Total War and Steam Greenlight has been long resolved, I have unhidden the Land of Hyrule mod from the Nexus for you all to download. Keep in mind, that was last updated in summer 2014 and is very out of date, but its currently all of the project that is available to the public. I will hopefully be able to update it sometime next month, so stay tuned!

Quickie update; I am working with an intro of some sort for the mod. I won't say what form it will take, but it is currently being worked on, so look forward to it!

Secondly, I just want to clarify a thing or two for people that perhaps expect something different than what I am making. The dungeons, though most are directly from a past Zelda game, will be both streamlined and less puzzle focused, playing more like vanilla Skyrim dungeons than Zelda ones. It pains me as much to not be able to make them like that as much as it most likely pains you to read that. Or, maybe you are like me and enjoy Skyrim dungeons. Whatever the case, I am very sorry I cannot deliver the full Zelda experience. There will be elements from Zelda dungeons, such as having to hunt for keys, but they will work exactly how they worked in their respective game. Additionally, some interiors and spaces in general might look a little rough. I re-use basic pieces a lot when crafting interiors, and this is so I can get it done this century. I would love to sort through all the hundreds of different building blocks the creation kit has to find the perfect piece for any space, but I only have so much free time, and even less where I am able to concentrate, so it needs to last. They won't look atrocious, just mostly a little empty. I will try and make everything look as good as possible by tweaking the lighting, and creating an atmosphere with the music and acoustics that will hopefully draw the player in. Anyway, with that said, the emphasis for this project from my hands getting on it has been the characters and the lore of Zelda, and how that ties together with what is in the game. You go on an adventure around a large new world, and I hope that you all can enjoy it for what it is. It will still have combat, new followers, items, races, etc., so it will not be missing out on content.

Lastly, I am going to say the release window is April until further notice. One of two things could happen; Everything works flawlessly, and I have a mod ready to put out the door, or the quests all break because of something I never thought of when I test them out, leading to me having to remake them from scratch. I have gotten much better with quests in the year I have been working with them, so the latter would at least be not that significant of a task, just more time consuming and busywork rather than creation. Anyway, let me know what you think guys!

It's true that I probably don't have enough information to pose the following question, but I'll ask anyway. Is it possible that the scope of this project is just a bit too broad for one (busy) person to do an adequate job on it ? If, e.g., you don't have enough time to choose appropriate meshes and textures or to properly clutter an area, is it possible you're making too many areas ? My guess is that most people would prefer fully finished looking areas with more interesting mechanics--even if that means the overall mod is smaller in scale and scope.

Either way, I'm looking forward to what you come up with.

I can definitely see where this is coming from, and I do share that concern. But, first of all, I am using the mod Zelda Land of Hyrule as a base, so many areas are complete or need very minor tweaking. Secondly, its not really that I don't have the time to properly clutter areas, more that I don't have the skills to do it. If I were to just make one area, it would most likely look about the same, it would just take me less time. As for interesting mechanics, again that doesn't really tie into the scope of the mod, more so that I don't really have any ideas for that, nor would I have any real good idea as to how to make that work. For instance, I tried implementing the key mechanics of Zelda, and it just didn't work, most likely due to how the game keeps track of the keys in the player's inventory. Zelda dungeons are very unique and creative logic puzzles, and I don't have the game design talent to come up with new ones that would work well, especially with the limitations that Skyrim presents.

 Incredible work so far, I replied to you on deviant Art by the way. This looks great, very promising you have no idea how excited I am for this haven't ever seen a Twilight Princess World mod yet! THIS is just awesome! Might have a heart attack dang it! From excitement! Hahaha YES! :teehee:

If you need help with this let me know, in my PM on DA I explained how I'd be able to do this. One more thing, I have a Twilight Princess Ganondorf mod too, one which will have added custom voice. This is his voice here myself since I'm a (Voice Actor) VA:

I responded to your response on DA. And I am extremely flattered by your kind words, I am glad that my project is able to make a good first impression! And that is also a very good Ganondorf voice.

This looks very promising. Still being developed? I can pitch in and help test if you like. Currently I run JKalenad's Relics of Hyrule but more Zelda stuff won't hurt.

Yes, it is still being developed. Not currently looking for testers by perhaps in a few weeks.

Hey everyone, I made a Trello for the project and I am posting it here to a) make myself use it more since it really is a good tool to keep track of what I am doing, and b) to show you guys that I am always working on it and improving, despite my secretive approach to the project. The board spoils nothing aside from dungeons and some races that appear, and if people don't want that then I can change their names to code. Not that you would be too spoiled anyway, I only added one dungeon on top of the original ones included in the current version up on nexus.
