nogrim
Go try and pick up something in build mode and carry it somewhere else. You can't. Or command a settler and try to lead them to the eother end of the settlement to assign them to a job. It can't be done. Using the keyboard, you can't WALK while in building mode. Maybe this is just the crazy way I've remapped my keys, or maybe very few mouse & keyboard users have actually experimented playing with the controller and just don't know how it should be done. With the controller you can move completely freely even when in buiild mode. This allows you to fine tune placements of objects a lot better, move things long distances without having to go in and out of the build mode, and of course assign settlers to their positions. It works flawlessly. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of the forum so that---I hope---it will go on someone's To Do list. Believe me if I knew how to do this I'd have done it already. I'm also aware that the editor and/or script extender plus relevant functions may have to be released before this extremely annoying oversight is fixed. Thank you for reading. exit then re enter building mode. this fixes it 99% of the time for me. i think it has to do with some sort of key combo or too many keys at once that starts it but then you cant do anything with the menus
UlfricsRevenge
At the suggestion of someone on the official forums I've been using a program called GlovePIE to remap my keys. Changing WASD to arrows solves the problem of not being able to move while in build mode, but it presents a new problem. The game is now detecting the arrow keys for both movement AND item selection, so as you navigate through the items you want to build, you also move. It's annoying but better than it was with no movement at all. I have my girlfriend's spare controller hooked right up to my PC and all I have to do is enable it in game and all these problems will go away. I'm tempted. But then of course I can't hit anything when I aim. It's a no win situation. Thanks Bethesda for once again supporting the PC community which BUILT you from the ground up. jamiechi
I found AHK works best for changing the keyboard. It is best to only modify keys that change the numpad since Fallout4 doesn't use them.Try this:Leave the wasd keys as is.Change the arrow keys in AHK to map to wasd.Change the arrow keys in numpad to map to main keyboard arrows, and turn off numlock. This is a bit unwieldy to use but works for me. http://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/496881136900792263/
SanaKitty
I haven't bothered playing with my keyboard in the French layout (AZERTY), so I just always switch it to an English layout whenever I play and leave the keybindings to their defaults. Tajin
Be very careful when remapping your keys (or do it with AHK / Glovepie). There are a ton of hardcoded keys in the UI. I really don't know what they were thinking (or if they were thinking at all). Hope they have the decency of patching that in the near future...
