MajorFreak
anyone able to tell me what mechanic is involved in getting LOS on aliens directly below me while my xcom sniper is on a rooftop edge? Is there some set minimum distance for los?
Looca
I always assumed "directly against the wall underneath sniper/person on rooftop" is just a blind spot. Seems like XCOM soldiers don't bother looking straight down when on top of a building, which can be irritating. Distance, I think, isn't so much an issue, even less so if you have a Squad Sight sniper. It depends on angle from what I've experienced. On the bright side, dropping down right next to someone against a wall usually doesn't trigger an overwatch, which makes flanking quite easy. I've also just noticed you posted this months ago, but hell. I'm bored. :|
dubiousintent
LOS is calculated from the centers of the tiles. If that line crosses any "cover" then LOS is lost. So any difference in elevation automatically makes the adjacent tile not on the same elevation break LOS. The solution for most people is called "grenades" or move. There was some very detailed analysis of this regarding "leaning" around corners to take a shot on the 2K XCOM Forum back when the game was first released. Same principle. Unfortunately I don't seem to have the link. -Dubious- Edited March 9, 2016 by dubiousintent
