JimboUK
Modders will come to the rescue if there are enough slots to put various parts in.
Vagrant0
Hell no, if that means armors will be one piece then I dont want it anywhere near TES That is not what layer armor means, and that a fo thing to have one piece. It not what I meant anyways. Layer armor was a thing in morrowind, you get to pick left or right arm, boots, skirt (or was is legs?) , shoulders, chest and head from any armor you want. That gives you the ability to mix and match and look awesome, mismatched or scary in the best way possible. You really don't want that near TES? For Morrowind it was separate slots for each shoulder, upper arm, lower arm, gauntlet, upper leg, lower leg, boot, waist, head, and torso. It's great in theory, but does run into some significant issues in terms of preparing the body models. Morrowind didn't have much of a problem because the body models were made of little more than oddly shaped spheres lumped together. Although mods for a unified body eventually came along, it did have problems in relation to seams and compatibility. With Oblivion there were always issues with neck seams and places where skin went under metal or cloth. With FO3 and NV there were complications related to dismemberment that added complexity to the body models. With Skyrim you went back to a system similar to Oblivion, but with unified torso/legs so that there were not as many significant clipping issues. With FO4, we see a compromise between Skyrim and FO3's systems by means of the underlay and overarmor. I can see a similar system being adapted to TES quite well, with padded cloth, leather, chain being worn under metal or other material plate being fitted on top (just like real armor), or just worn on its own as light armor. Essentially being able to bring back the categories of light, medium (leather reinforcing, banding, or composite plating, and heavy armor instead of just light or heavy. The modeling techniques themselves would likely need more refinement though since existing armor pieces in FO4 just feel too minimal in terms of coverage.
