Help with Oblivion files.

Hi. I've just joined today, and I've had Oblivion for quite a while.

I'm trying to reinstall Oblivion, but when I try to uninstall, it gives me an error message.

What should I do?

Also, could anyone give me the names of all the folders that come with Oblivion when it installs? (i.e.- only the ones that you would see when you double-click on the Oblivion folder)

I know, it sounds weird, but the thing is when I installed Oblivion I installed it just to my D:/ drive and there were already a ton of folders in there, so I don't know which folders are for Oblivion.

I know one of the folders is DATA... are there any more?

If the message says something like "uninstall.exe not found" it means the application that uninstalls the game has gone missing. The same thing happened to me (still havent figured out how though). What you will need to do is look for the uninstall program that is on the disk. To do this just use windows explorer. I dont remember exactly where it is, but it is on there somewhere. When you find it, just start it by double clicking.

The Oblivion Launcher could not find the uninstall program.

Run the setup.exe on the Oblivion install disc to uninstall.

Looks like they neglected to test the launcher's Uninstall option.

Setup.exe is in the root directory of the DVD (?:\).

I've already run setup.exe multiple times, nothing seems to work.

Could anyone tell me the folders?

If the setup.exe fails to run, deleting folders isn't going to solve anything. Besides, when it reinstalls, all the folders you need will be added. The problem is that you still have the registry entries for oblivion, as this can get complicated, and require very specific changes that may totally screw up your computer if done wrong, I'll let someone with more experience explain what you need to remove. If you have registry mechanic, or norton system works, or something that removes invalid registry enteries, you can use that, but you'll have to delete your oblivion.exe and any of the base files (backup your data folder) then run the program. once the registry keys are removed, you should be able to install oblivion, then install either SI, OR one of the patches.

I don't think setup.exe failed to run. A message appeared saying "Please go to the control panel to configure system components."

Now I'm suffering from almost exactly the same problem. I've had a CTD glitch recently when playing Oblivion so I decided to try reinstalling it. When I try to uninstall via Add/Remove Programs it says something about SetupDLL.cpp and other jargonney rubbish. I try setup.exe on the disk, it asks me if I want to remove Oblivion, I click yes and it spends about 1 second on it and then claims Oblivion has been removed. It hasn't. And it screws up the exe in some way so that Oblivion can't find it anymore so I can't even play it.

So, I try deleting everything, the Bethesda Softworks folder, the My Games folder with Oblivion in it, and the shortcut, and even the Start menu entries. I run Registry Repair Pro, correct the registry entries, defrag the registry, defrag my hard drive, and even run an error check, no matter what I do it still asks me if I want to uninstall Oblivion. No install or anything. Same old 1 second fake uninstall. When I insert the disk it just brings up the launcher instead of the installer. Gah.
