The problems is if i make any hex editing (even changing one number 58 to 57 for making the game read .ini files) on the game Executable files ex. ( XComEW.exe ) when launching the game it crashes with error XcomEW.exe Application errorThe application was unable to start corectly (0xc0000142) If i edit any hex changes back to what it was it starts to works again. dubiousintent Posted November 20, 2015 Share Posted November 20, 2015 Assuming this is a Windows error, do you have Steam/XCOM installed in the default "C:\Program Files" folder tree? If so, it won't let you make any edits to files located there as a protection against malware, which is why we say you have to move your Steam folder out of that tree. See the "Basic Guide to installing mods" wiki article. In particular, see the "Environments" section.
