.ini changes for modding cause game to crash.

Well, considering neither, "bEnableFileSelection", nor, "bInvalidateOlderFiles", is even IN the INI until you ADD it, that doesn't work. Also, the STRINGS\ line change is no longer necessary according to multiple mod pages and Gopher. So adding new lines is kind of necessary to modding...

The strings line is still needed if you ever need to load in loose files. Anyway, I'll clarify what needs to be done.

1) Go to C:\Users\[username]\Documents\my games\Fallout4.

2) Open Fallout4.ini and find the sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, line (it should ALWAYS be there, the game uses this line). Add TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ to the line mentioned above. Save and close.

3) Open Fallout4Prefs.ini, find the bEnableFileSelection=0 line and change the 0 to 1. If this line is missing for the file, add it directly under [Launcher]. Save and close.

4) Done.

For what its worth, I've tried doing this method twice now. Both times has resulted in the game crashing within five seconds of getting into the main menu. I've also done the newer method, but have had the same results.

*edit* Haven't done this since the update. Now that I have done this, the game doesn't CTD within five seconds of starting. I'm going to fiddle around and see what other results I get.

I think I fixed it!!!! I reinstalled the game as well as all mods, and I noticed that in the Data folder, many of the replaced (by mods) folders, were no longer capitalized!! (Textures was textures), recapitalized it all, as well as some sub folders to be safe, and I'm not getting crashes in the areas I was anymore!! Also, bonus, many parts of mods that weren't working right? WORKING NOW!!!!

Having similar issues. Followed the troubleshooting steps, several times.

Game crashes to desktop at startup. Every time.

When I delete the added lines to fallout4custom.ini, the game will load fine, but no mods.

Nexus modder is working fine for things like crafted ammo. Plugins seem to function as normal.

It's not going to ruin my game if I'm stuck with a blue vault suit, or can't change the color of my pip-boy, but I would really appreciate some input on getting past this problem. Lots of cool mods out there to try.

Please add what you are experiencing and any resolutions>(CONFIRMED RESOLUTIONS ONLY PLEASE) you've discovered to this nexus post:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3577630-0000-are-the-number-of-mods-working-for-me-right-now/

as I am trying to get a knowledge-base going for this issue. Is it updates, is it incorrectly configured .ini's, is it mods running that are incompatible with each other? Please forward your issues concerning this topic and your CONFIRMED ONLY solutions to the forum topic above.
