seuv
Before you set it as read only make sure the mods you want to use are in the list like the example below. Then set it to read only and that's it, you are done preventing updates from mucking up your load order. When you want to add mods unset the read only and add your mods then once done set it back to read only. # This file is used by Fallout4 to keep track of your downloaded content.# Please do not modify this file.Fallout4.esmGameTweaks.espClimateTweaks.espAssaultRifle.espWorkshopTweaks.esp # Please do not modify this file. HAHAHAHA!!!!! Funny Bethesda! You crack me up! It worked! Thanks for your help!
KG989
Hmm...I'll keep an eye on any responses from them. I hope this was just a technical fluke and will be fixed soon.
Mazdek
I was more meaning restrictions on users who have modified the file being able to buy/ download/ install etc. any official Fallout 4 content [DLC, updates, extras. etc.] through legal means. The purchase would be completed before Steam would even look at installing the files, so setting it RO wouldn't affect their ability to take your money. :) If Steam isn't running with admin privs, the only thing that would happen is that new DLCs you buy would never get loaded as the game starts until you manually added them to the plugins.txt. But NMM will probably be updated to keep tabs on the file, if it hasn't already.
KG989
It hasn't been updated yet. Performed an update check just a few moments ago. I just don't want to be fiddling around making things read-only and trying to trick the system into making things work if I don't have to. You know? cedaie
Every time they patch the game, just trash Fallout4Launcher.exe, change Fallout4.exe to Fallout4Launcher.exe and enable your mods.
jet4571
Meh, simpler to make the plugins.txt read only, No surprises when Bethesda makes a patch and doesn't say anything forcing you to redo your load order and change the .exe. Plus NMM should be getting an update that makes the plugins.txt read only so you can use it to add or remove mods and not manually change the flag.(cant believe I just suggested using a mod manager lol). Funny thing with one of Gophers vids he suggested starting the launcher then re-enabling the mods in NMM after and that is more steps than just making plugins.txt read only. If the NMM update allowing a read only plugins.txt isn't real then the only time you would need to change the flag is when adding or removing a mod. If that's a once a week occurrence then its not really a hassle, if it is daily then yeah that could be an issue but if that's the case starting the launcher then re-enabling mods would be a pita and "Surprise" update from Bethesda would be a catastrophe.
