MyDudeScottyP
Could it be possible to make the new VATS act like the old one (pause the game instead of just slow it)?
MyDudeScottyP
Never mind, just found a mod that does it. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/531/?
jcdenton2012
Believe it or not, I'm probably in the minority of people who actually liked Old Vats more than New Vats, and here's why. Old Vats was 'build specific' and that tended to be the best way of using it by incorporating it into your character build. Essentially, you designed your character around having max Vats points with 'the best' possible chances for instant critical's. This allowed you to enter a room full of enemies and clear the place out in one clean sweep. The problem with New Vats is that its not build specific because it's slow-mo rather than stop action, thus you can't plan your critical's for optimal effect. You can still plan your critical's and hits using New Vats, but the new slow-mo has shoe-horned the system into merely being a novelty more than a 'deadly deadly' thing to build your character around. If I may be blunt, you can't do the same damage using New Vats as you could using Old Vats because New Vats simply isn't built to allow you the same ability to deal that high degree of damage real fast. I understand that this is probably for balance issues, but... it really has crippled my ability to design a build around VATs. Also, the new perk system. The fact that power armor now seems to be made out of tin foil. The annoying low weapon damage when iron sighting... All of these things have made it really difficult to do 'builds' now, and I want to admit that this... I find annoying. In there attempts to balance the combat... Bethesda kind of broke our abilities to do builds.
MyDudeScottyP
I like the old VATS because it added a strategic layer to the game. It allowed you to pause the game, evaluate the situation, prioritize your targets, then carry out your plan of attack. It was a unique feature in first person shooters, while bullet time has been done to death. And that is what the new VATS is, bullet time with targeted aiming. ArtMurder
I may be the weirdest in the bunch, but I would love to see the "real time" vats mods work stable (from what I've read they seem glitchy and it scares me) I never liked vats, and usually use it to either find an enemy hiding in the dark, or to make sure I hit a certain enemy and not my follower, OR because the enemy is tiny. It still feels "cheaty" fro me, since I tend to use very high accuracy guns, even without any vats perks. I feel I would PERSONALLY use the feature more if it felt like a real time overlay on what's happening, like a combat aid. I also find myself going in and back out of it instantly a lot because of the slight delay on the slow down effect! >.< Either the old way or real time should fix that!
