How to transfer plugins...

I just have to ask myself why no one mentioned a CD-RW drive they are dirt cheap now and so are CD-R discs, and much more effective then a USB ZIP, since all you have to do is burn the files to the CD (with the right application its just like moving files to a floppy drive) and then place the CD in the other computer. Obviously the morrowind machine has a CD-ROM so theres no nead to continualy swap the ZIP Drive between rooms.

Just go to the CD-RW/Inetcomputer, download, burn, leave. done.

I would agree with the CD-RW approach, they are dirt cheap and due to the CD-RW technology reaching its peak (they cant make them much faster or more efficiant than they are just now) you can't get a crap one, even the cheap ones are usually good. And usually they come with everything you need and usually have very detailed installation instructions !!!!

Either solution would work, the "keychain" USB drive would VERY cool (LOTS of people are making them now (with capacities as large as 1Gig!)) as would an external Zip Drive.  I have one at home (external 250Mb Zip) and use it almost exclusively for transfering plug-in files that download while I'm at work; but gawd it's handy for a LOT of things.  250Mb is a lot of room, they can use the smaller 100Mb disks and Zip Disks are a lot "tougher" than CD's (which is important for me).

Thanks Baphomet. Thats what i meant, but the Zip drive is an alternative. Do you know where they're sold (online is possible, geography makes going to a shop in Georgia slightly difficult  )

I have just learned of a more important reason to get a drive. The computer i only have access to once a week is getting broadband (oh the pain, the pain of it all), so i'm just goning to plug in and blast the net for stuff (all legal mods, don't worry B) ), then transfer it to my gaming PC. Let the good times roll.

*whines miserably "Would be better if broadband was on my gaming pc. But oh, no, British Telecom say that we live "within the catchment area but our lines too long. Blah balh bl..." ad infinitum

My PC's upstairs and this one (parents) is downstairs, mine is on the opposite side of the house as well. Plus you would have to by a hub, and I think those are kind of expensive (I dont have to much money; 15$, spent most of it on morrowind few months ago....) and my parents wouldn't want to do something like that just for me... The CD-RW, yes thats a possibility, I was thinking of getting one for them for X-mas, but then again, what would they do with it? Thnx for all the ideas guys, I appreciate it! B)

Wait a sec. I forgot something! I could ask for that nifty little USB drive for X-mas myself, and cure all my worries. I could get more than just plugins, I could get all the drivers my PC is so badly dieing for! Hmmmm.... ;) Its only like 50-60 US right? Well thats reasonable, thnx again!

well you don't need a hub if you're just linking two computers, you just use a crossover cable, which i think i mentioned. Also, if the cabling is a proble, use a wireless network. Think of this as a more permanent solution. Might cost a little bit more upfront, but when you get it you'll wonder how you every did without.

And not a single mention that WinZip can take an existing zip file and split it into whatever size chunks you want, just like the File Splitter Peregrine mentioned.

But then there are some very good suggestions already, ZipDrive, CD-RW and of course networking (if distance/cabling is a problem then consider a wireless network).

Well the CD-RW is an excellent option, but if you're interested in a USB powered Zip Drive (250Mb) I found you one here for $80 USD. That's pretty cheap. And just FYI, 250Mb drives accept the smaller 100Mb Zip discs as well.

I don't know why I like Zip drives so much as opposed to burning CD's, I just do.

For quickly moving files from PC to PC I prefer zips as well. I still rebel at the thought of burning a CD with less than 400-500 mB, no matter how cheap they get. I do however burn the mod zips onto CD once I collect enough of them just so I don't have to keep downloading the same mods every time I reinstall Windoze or get a new PC.

If the 250 mB versions are only $80 I may get a new one myself.
