Nightspore mentioned Iomega's product. I did some research on it myself, and for 128mb its 60 dollars. Most manufactureres (sp?) are like 120+ for that kind of thing. So I guess, thats going on my X-mas list!

LOL I downloaded the ROTK demo and the file splitter said it would take 67 floppys!

Why burn a cd all of the way? I download, save to disk, copy to cd, and then leave the cd open so that I can copy more onto it. That way you can constantly update your disk, and remove what you find to crash other things. Once I am positive that the cd is the way I want it, I lock it and go on from there. Do you only have the R/W drive on one ot the PCs? a lot of companies have been adding them as free upgrades for a long time now.

I also have the 250mb Iomega Zip drive, which I used to use for work a lot. I know they have 1GB versions out there, which should have dropped the smaller ones greatly in price. Only get what you really think you need. There aren't a lot of mods out there that require more than the 250, and most of them only require a 100. On the Iomega site, it says the 100gb is $80, but there is a $30 mail in rebate through January 3 of next year. (BTW - you're going to need two - one for the source computer and one for the target)

Forget getting TWO Zip Drives... get a USB version and hot-swap that puppy!

One of the best things about those (USB) drives.

I too rebel at burning a few meg onto a CD... for some reason I just haven't taken to CD's all that well. Great when I want one, but I just don't want one all that often. Zips are just so much more my style, for whatever reason <shrug>. Pop it in, save files, delete files, pop it out, reformat it once in a while... no muss, no fuss, no bother. All the simplicity of a 3.5" floppy with, what, 200 times the capacity or so?

Gawd... I just love my IOMega 250Mb USB Zip Drive... just love it.

Here is a completely free and fast(ish) way to transfer data from your parents comp to your own comp.....

1) Remove the hard drive from your comp and set the jumpers on it to "Slave"...there is a 90% chance the drive will have the jumper settings written on it !

2) Put the hard drive on the same ribbon cable as the hard drive on your parents PC. If your parents computer doesnt have a spare connection on the hard drive ribbon cable set your hard drive back to "master" and disconnect the CD-Rom drive from its ribbon cable and use that cable to connect your drive !

3) Boot the computer into windows and transfer the data to your own hard drive.

4) Shut down the computer and remove the hard drive, then set the jumpers on the drive back to "Master" and put it back into your own computer !!!

You should only do this if you have some understanding of how the internal parts of computers are fitted.....ohh if you attempt this ground yourself first to discharge any electrical charge

Thefunky1: My bro did that once and it takes some time, so each time I find a cool plugin I have to (well actually I would probably destroy my parents PC, dont know that much) ask my bro to do it. (he built my PC so I guess he knows how to do it....) :)

Baphomet: I am trying to find what you have but, all I can find is zip drives, which would need two! :(

While having two zip drives would make it a bit easier in that you only have to swap disks, you don't NEED two.

It's an external drive that connects through your USB port, so once you have the Iomega USB drivers installed on both machines all you have to do is unplug the drive from your machine & plug it into your parents' machine, transfer the files & plug the whole thing back into your machine.
