Updated Launcher will disable MODS on launch, find a fix here.

Tried the first method mentioned by OP, worked but I have to re-enable every time I load the new launcher.

Just keep a copy of the old fallout4launcher.exe outside of steam before you update, and replace the new launcher with the old.

My guess is that should work :/

This works ^. Also starting Fallout4 through F4SE will also bypass having to re-enable mods through the manager at start.

Cuz they are a bunch of twots that are gonna seriously loose fans if they dont either explain where they messed up or why they have done this. Why cant they either own up to a mistake or at lest be open and honest about any reason if it was deliberate.

Unfortunately Bethesda doesn't understand consequences - if you look over at their forums, any attempt at discussion is drowned out immediately by people "defending" the company. This is likely why consequences play such a small part in their games.

just set plugins.txt to read only, then you can just launch the game normally.

thank you bladexdsl, that indeed works. Think I will also d/l the new F4se so I can launch game via nmm.

Silly Bethesda. Do they actually think they can stop the modding community? More like this is how their updates always seem to behave.. little actual improvement, more problems.

I highly doubt Bethesda have done this to intentionally try and stop people from modding. There are any number of reasons why they changed the launcher. They know people will find a way around it so I doubt they'd waste the effort trying to do it. Not saying this as a Bethesda fanboy or even to try and defend Bethesda, I'm just saying logically it's highly unlikely and people should stop jumping to conclusions or thinking Bethesda is out to get modders. Considering that modding is a big part of why their games are so successful, they'd be stupid to try and stop it happening.

  1. Go into this folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Fallout4
  2. Copy the contents of EITHER DLCList.txt OR loadorder.txt into plugins.txt (DLCList.txt is listed by install order. loadorder.txt is created by NMM and contains ALL mods, even ones that were inactive).
  3. Make sure Fallout4.esm is at the top of the list in plugins.txt
  4. Reorganise the mods into your desired load order
  5. Save the file and make it Read Only

The launcher won't overwrite the file now and the mods will load ok.

Don't forget you made the file Read Only if you want to add more mods later :D

Nice work Gameaholic, did what you said, worked a treat :) Bet that will stick in bethesda's side lol. (here's to hoping they don't find a way round your fix anytime soon). Ive nothing against the devs but stopping mod support is a quick and easy way to lose paying customers in the future.
