MechanicalTaco
I am, quite frankly, tired of the smithing system. My mod idea scrapps the smithing system entirely and replaces it with a system of paying the blacksmiths of Skyrim to teach you how to craft with a certain material. Certain perks can only be taught by certain blacksmiths. Steel: taught by any blacksmithElven: Infiltrate the ThalmorAdvanced: any blacksmith with smithing level 50+Glass: Infiltrate the ThalmorDwarven: find quest from adventurerOrcish: Any Orc blacksmithEbony:Researching/Questing for Dragon: Eorland Gray-Mane in WhiterunArcane Smithing: Sergius Turrianus in CoW Additionally, youd can't skip levels. Youd have to know how to make steal before you learn elven, or dwarven. Some perks are aquired through quests, because no one alive is going to know how to make Dwarven or Dragonbone/plate armor, and as far as I know, there arent any High Elf blacksmiths. For learning how to make Dragonbone/plate armor and weapons, I had two ideas. 1: youd have to go on a quest to locate a tome in a new nordic ruin explaining how to forge them, or 2: Supply Eorland Gray-mane with a sizable payment and a specified amount of dragon bones and scales, like 10 of each, and he'll experiment. After a few days youd get a letter from a courier telling you he needs a few more bones and scales, maybe 3 or 5 of each and a few days after, he'll teach you to make dragon bones and armor. To make Dwarven armor and weapons, you would meet an adventurer in some tavern who tells you he found a book for forging dwarven items, but was attacked and forced to flee, leaving the book. You have to go get it. For Daedric, maybe add a dungeon full of daedric beings, you find a strange book in a language you can't read, and you take it to the librarian in the College of Winterhold, of coarse. He translates it and you learn how to craft daedric items. For Elven and Glass, there is a new smithy added to the Thalmor Embassy and you have to infiltrate the base and steal the books telling you how to make them. I would love to have this mod made real, as it is kind of immersive. Crafting a crap ton of daggers and jewelry and suddenly you know how to forge a daedric armor is just, you know, pretty non-immersive. But paying a blacksmith to teach you to craft with a certain material seems pretty cool. As for the prices of learning the perks, I think they could go something like this: Steel: 400 gold Elven: Infiltrate the Thalmor EmbassyAdvanced: 1000 goldGlass: Infiltrate the Thalmore EmbassyDwarven: encounter an adventurer in tavernOrcish: 3000Ebony: 4000 goldTo research Dragon items: 6000Arcane Smithing: 2000 I appriciate you reading my idea and hope it gets made by some kind soul <
ke38290
That's a cool idea, i don't know anything about scripting and changing perks though. All I can do is level design. Not sure if this is what you meant already but I think it would work better if you only needed to know steel and then any other material is learnable at any time.
