Forming a modding team, looking for volunteers!

Finally gotten around to replying to all the PM's I've received - sorry about the delay!

I think we can finish the discussion about whether this is a good idea or not anyway - ecutruin and I have talked one to one and we're happy, the group has upwards of 20 people on our Trello board and discussions about projects are really taking off :)

Hum... you remind me of that Enclave guy trying to get a team together, but your team seems less directional. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but... it makes veteran modders who have proven track-records less likely to volunteer. It might behoove you to put up a concept design doc in the near future outlining what you hope to accomplish. I know the, 'everyone get's a say,' thing sounds good on paper, but in practice it can destroy projects. TJP is a pretty good example of this. Sometimes, democracy works best when its compartmentalized with cell designers not necessarily being voted into submission by writers and actors to design sets. Typically, when people are being voted into doing something that they don't want, in their hobby that they do for fun, they aren't likely to stay around and help you finish what you hope to accomplish. I know that this might sound harsh, but... it is sadly the truth. Projects which have a sound idea draw appeal. Projects which have a sound idea and proof of concept draw much much more. You can chalk this up to, 'everyone wants to be on the winning team,' but that's honestly unfair. This is more of a case of people wanting to feel as though their time investment had merit, did this thing they invested fun hobby time into give them satisfaction with their end result, but... when people start to feel neglected they simply move on.

In concept, a project where democratic consensus determines the projects goals and ultimate work is one in which everyone get's something out of it. However, if people start to feel isolated and down trodden in your team... well... this is ultimately just a hobby. To that end, having your inner circle of people who are likely to do most of the work determine your projects core concept, and then allowing augmentations around that concept would probably work best. But eh... ultimately... this is your project. JC AWAY!!
