I did not encounter that issue myself since Buddy Bot has Essential disabled. And, FYI, I invoke a Kill upon self-destruct specifically to prevent normal destruction, which then facilitates better control via scripting: the Kill causes him to shutdown and collapse, and the explosions rip him apart with various visual effects as he collapses.
