Spectacle Island

Ok, so, I'm having a couple of different problems with my latest territory acquisition; Spectacle Island. I love it. It's big, it's complex, has a few unique areas that adds a nice bit of flavor to what I can build around it.

But it's got some problems. Namely, the second switch that turns on the mirelurk repellent beacon? Don't work. I keep getting a "This breaker doesn't work" message or some such (can't remember exact wording), and this was preventing me from accessing the work bench.

So considering it took me 3 attempts to kill the Mirelurk Queen (and a 4th attempt where I accidentally MIRVed the ground too close to me), I finally had enough, and on my 5th time fighting (and 2nd time defeating) the Mirelurk Queen, I ran around the island and killed the rest of the asshole mirelurks. I then used a console command on the workbench (since the breaker still wouldn't work) to set it's ownership to me.

Viola. I can use the workbench. I can build, and all is dandy.

Except it quite isn't. It kinda bugs my completionist mentality (not a strong one, but still...) that I haven't fixed the switch, and part of me is also worried this will open the way to Mirelurks constantly respawning and killing the piss out of my serfs settlers.

But the biggest problem is I can't send anyone there. I can't move settlers, I cant send provisioners, and I can't dismiss companions via talking and send them to Spectacle. Which really sucks, because I was planning on making Spectacle Island my new base of operations where all of my companions, power armor, weapons, and other stuff are stored.

Anyone have a tip on how to fix this? Is there a console code I can use to make the switch work and thus complete the signal part of the quest? Or am I boned and have to wait for a mod to fix this?

Any help, please? I really am tired of Boston Airport and my companions constantly spawning/ending up in the sealed room which has the parts of Liberty Prime.

u gotta turn the generator on in the boat attached to the cable attched to the switch its the story to unlock the island lefgit

I did that. Was actually the first thing I did since I approached the Island from the southwest (walked underwater in power armor), so the boat with the breaker was the first thign I found, and thus the first thing I even did once I got on the island. Yet the signal tower refuses to work.

Have you tried to reconnect the power line from the shack to the ship again? I know that the lines disappear when you remove the thrash trees that are holding that line. Maybe the line broke during the fight with the big bad mother and the shack have no power anymore?

That mirelurk repellent beacon isn't all it's cracked up to be. I've been present at around half a dozen attacks on my Spectacle Island settlement, and they've all been made by mirelurks. Not just any old mirelurks either, but kings and razorclaws. Upon checking the beacon after an attack, it always seems to be in operation. Unless the crafty crustaceans possess some kind of jamming device......

Yeah, I have. Rewired that b&@*$ at least three times. built all my generators on the boat so it would be my primary power source. Still wont work.

At this point I don't care about the beacon. It got attacked by Radscorpions this morning. So I'm just gonna cover the place in turrets. What I'm hoping to fix with this is the fact that I can't send provisioners and settlers to the island to beef up it's population, 'cause my main plan is to have a ghoul/robot in every other settlement, and have them all go to Spectacle Island while storing all of my junk/resources/weapons in Spectacle. Makes it easier to have a central hub that everyone goes to rather than manage a complex web of routes.

But in order to do this, I need a solution to the problem. And I think that damned beacon is the root of it.

So, I may have finally found a solution to my problem. Sadly, it means loading an old save file and rebuilding everything I've done on Spectacle Island so far, which, sadly, is a lot of work and many hours.

So, apparently, the problem was I didn't do the unwritten quest in the proper freaking order. A simple oversight on Bethesda's part to not think of this and code it in, but oh well. That's what I get for only receiving a partial spoiler.

Per the Steam thread I found with the solution...

So assuming the usual buggy Bethesda quest, I reloaded a save before I flipped the generator switch and did the following instead:
1. Do NOT turn on the generator until you go to the metal shack with the sonar pulse beacon.
2. Go to the metal shack and read the checklist. I flipped the breaker switch and checked the workshop just for the hell of it.
3. Now go back to the ship and turn on the generator.
4. You do not need to fight off the mirelurks and the mirelurk queen if you don't want to. I sprinted back to the metal shack instead.
5. Flip breaker switch. There will be a buzzing sound initially and then it will go away. A bunch of mirelurks will pop up but will scuttle away from the shack. Signal will also work on the mirelurk queen.
6. Claim the workshop.

Which makes sense. Since I arrived on the island on the south side and found the boat/bobblehead first, I didn't read the instructions about the beacon until AFTER I had already turned on the generator and killed the Mirelurk Queen.

So, when i get home, I'm going to try this. I'll load my old game, TCL and TGM so I can sprint my way across the water, and do this all in the proper order. See if that solves my problem of not being able to send settlers/companions/provisioners to/from Spectacle Island, see the settler/happiness count on the world map, etc. Make it a proper listed settlement.

Thanks to Fl0W and Worsthan for offering suggestions and advise.

EDIT

This was a triumph!

I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS!

  • 3 weeks later...

Posting because I'm seeing this too.

I, too, turned on the generator prior to the shack beacon and now nothing will allow me to enable it.

Loading an old game isn't worth it since it would set me back 15 levels and I'd already done tons of renovating in other settlements.

I hope someone knows how to do a reset quest console command or something because this is bumming me out.

I then used a console command on the workbench

I tried this but it didn't work.

Look at the workbench - console - make sure the item id is up top / click on workbench with console up - type "setownership" - no error - still same.

I can't get the workbench to change ownership I guess.

This is driving me nuts.
