NMM doesnt install mods, must install manually Help?

Usually when you can download manually, but not by just clicking on the download with manager tab it is something on your end. When over 90% of users can and you can't - maybe those 90% are doing something different. That doesn't mean we don't want to know that you are having a problem. We do. But we also need some real information as to what you have, Browser, OS, Add ons, AntiVirus, Firewall, and what you have already tried. Most often it is something in your browser, antivirus, script blocker, firewall or ad blocker. And we cannot do anything about those. As there are thousands of possibilities and combinations, Nexus cannot test every possible combination to see what works and what doesn't work for you.

One suggestion for testing. Download the portable version of a browser ( does not need to be installed and can be run from a USB stick) Do not use any add ons ( for testing purposes) and try that.

This will bypass anything in your browser that may be blocking. However, it does not rule out Antivirus or firewall blocking.

Currently I use a 64bit fork of Firefox called Pale Moon with several security add ons. I have never been able to use the download with manager tab with it ( regular 32 bit FF with no add ons works fine). However, As I prefer to download manually it works like I want it to.

Why would I prefer to Download manually? It gives me more flexibility in using mods. I download to a folder outside of the NMM folders. Then I decide when to install (I use the install from file on NMM) and if I ever uninstall and delete the mod from NMM, It is still available in my downloads folder without having to download from Nexus or some other site again. ( Yes, NMM can manage mods from other sites that are downloaded manually in this way) It also allows me to keep older versions of a mod, and allows me to save my own custom modified version of a mod that I have made changes to using the tools without overwriting the original.

I rely on NMM to install 99% of the mods as well. It's just easier.

I do manual install on a few mods (such as Unique Player and Follower) because such mod only establish the framework to install new mesh and textures for a few main characters, but they provide only Vanilla mesh and textures. Thus to make them look right I have to manually copy mesh and texture for each and every character. NMM does not know that, and the moment I click "uninstall" the mods, I may very well wipe those custom mesh and texture.

However, I want to ask, sometimes when I install a mod, NMM complains that I am overwriting a file in "Virtual Install", a file of the same mod. Does this mean NMM did not do a good job deleting the file when I uninstalled it, and now when I reinstall it finds the existing old file?

I also found some instances, like this mod called "Great Actors", I am in the middle of a glitch diagnostic (companion faces go dark skin) that I have to constantly uninstall/reinstall to test, and sometimes, even after uninstall, "Great Actors.esp" still linger in Fallout 4 Data folder.

I wish I was having a problem downloading but frankly, I'm not. Only a problem installing. Some scripting mods work and others crash my game(that could be caused by a slew of problems). The biggest problem I see and I've seen several other people have is that while installing texture mods, some users have had to install manually. I've been using NMM since Fallout 3 so I know a little about installing mods as well as troubleshooting but when all of my shooting has failed, I resort to the Forums. At this point I'm not sure what else I could possibly check or where to begin. I find it extremely strange that I can unpack and load some ESM files and get my ENB, and a few scripting mods to work with NMM but I have to manually install texture mods and whatever mods dont work on top of that. If it seems like I'm upset, I am, but not angry as I am fully aware that this is Beta and at my own risk. I'm just hoping one of the personal running this site, or in charge of the development runs into what I'm experiencing. Maybe something will be fixed with a release of the CK, but I'm really not sure.

I suspect my problem is the same as everyone elses and can only add that my game does not create a Fallout4Custom.ini file which seems to be a requirement for making mods work when using NMM. I have tried numerous potential solutions with no success at all, simply because I went from playing a errr.. loaned version to now post Dec.24, owning my own copy.

You don't need the custom.ini post patch. FYI; that file gets loaded when you do custom graphic settings. From gophers videos he showed you should be able to simply add the lines you want in the custom.ini, but from what we see here on the fourm, you don't need to. The top modders have told us that the custom.ini file is now the fallout.ini file.

In case you want the custom.ini settings for some sort of troubleshooting, they look like this:

Filename: Fallout4Custom.ini

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
That is all it has inside it. NMM still doesn't load the mods if I add the proper lines to the custom file or to the fallout4 and fallout4prefs files

WRONG....

just saying,

despite what ever crap they have changed, you STILL need to tell the game to check those folders... so basically,

you have a group of guys that dont have the right strings in their inis, all having the same issues with nmm not installing their mods....

sorry but LAWL...

cummon guys, please, READ, there have been about 5-6 previous posts on this topic...

I've had problems both while having and not having the files. The fact I can load some mods with or without the file simply proves you have no idea what I'm talking to. As I've stated before, NMM Installs folders into my data folder but no files inside those folders. Basically it extracts the folder architecture but not the files themselves. Please don't insult me like I'm brand new to this. I've performed clean install's and created new games to try to fix this issue and I'm still having the same issues. Ive run NMM as both admin and normally and I've set my entire steam and sub folders to R/W. Again, If I wasn't able to get mods to load at all I might believe you but before you post something trying to discredit all of the work I have done so far trying to resolve this, please take 5 minutes and read my posts.

And yet you say that... Bben is about the only one you SHOULD really pay attention too,

He has a point, if 90% of users arnt having and issue but you are?

but yeah ok, instead of trying to help you I will just leave it alone and you can figure it out...

good luck with that

First of all I resolved my issues.

The fact you have not read my issues shows just how arrogant you are. Instead of providing a fresh new perspective or reading what exactly I have tried or even requesting a screenshot or listen to my argument shows exactly how arrogant and egocentric you are. That being said, should you reread the first post I have updated to show this has been resolved by using a different type of logic then you have stated.

I have repeated multiple times that I could get texture mods to work properly if I manually install them and if using NMM the files would only load the file structure, but place nothing inside of them. Likewise some scripting mods would install but others would not. Normal troubleshooting issues did not work. However instead of requesting any photo evidence or asking genuine questions you simply insult the user. People like you should not be on the fourms at all if you are simply going to make everyones lives harder. In some cases it might be caused by a person reading but when someone very specifically tells you their issue is not caused by reading with obvious reasons to support that claim you should really keep your hands off the keyboard if you can't bring useful information to the table.

To every other user on this fourm who reads, I thank you very sincerely and wish you all a fine day. This thread may be locked.
