ebinan
Thank you for the solution and naming the issue. I had the same thing for skyrim and now fallout 4.
DoctorMorbius
I've spent hours trying to figure out why any mod I was installing that added workshop items, created spaces in the menu instead of displaying pictures. I went round and round in circles following folks advice on installing and un-installing conflicting mods, but nothing worked. With only one workshop related mod activated (any one, didn't matter which), the problem still persisted. I eventually found this thread and started NMM with admin rights and voila! Everything now works when I use NMM to install all my workshop add-ons. Thank you
bobttz
Running as admin not helps, it just creates shortcuts to VirtuallInstall folder, not moving files in Data. How to solve?
Entoarox
Running as admin not helps, it just creates shortcuts to VirtuallInstall folder, not moving files in Data. How to solve?Because NMM doesnt copy those files, the shortcuts you see are called `symlink`'s and they are a file-system mechanic to claim a file exists in 2 or more places in the file-system, while it only takes up space in one of those places. Having had this same issue myself recently, I can confirm that running NMM in admin fixes symlink generation. I also noticed that this issue didnt use to happen before I moved my fallout installation to a new SSD that has file compression enabled (HDD did not have compression), so either of these changes might be the cause of NMM not creating the symlinks properly. MPSyt
I have found a work around if the texture files dont show (took me 2 hours to figure out) you have to dowload it to NMM and manualy and download it like any mod on NMM but force it to the data and go to Plugins and write the full name from the NMM installer Edit Sry found out afterwards all other mods that adds textures dont seem to work Edited September 16, 2017 by MPSyt
BlueRaja
I've posted a bug report to github: https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Nexus-Mod-Manager/issues/157 Hopefully this gets more attention, this is a pretty serious bug.
Githnji
I have been having this issue for a long while now. My NMM mod folder location and Skyrim data folder are both on my external hard drive. Running NMM as Administrator does not correct the problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling NMM; no dice. I've been using Mod Organizer instead but now that I've switched to playing SSE I was hoping to use NMM again since MO is no longer supported. I'm at a loss. Numbnumb
My problems seem to have exacerbated because now I have only the red circles with the red line through them in ALL of my mods in NMM. In game I am now finding that things are not rendering as well. Doors do not render, entry points do not render and yet my character can walk through walls where doors should be. NMM is working yet not. Mod's seem to work yet others act like they never existed. Is anyone aware of this problem? Is there a fix coming?
Soulbringer1
Running as admin does not seem to work. I am having this problem with Skyrim also. Nothing but shortcuts to the NMM folder "Virtual Install". SO, My next trick is to take full rights of the NMM folder and all inside. I will see if that works. The mods will not function properly using sim links, PLUS, it burns up your CPU also, because it has to do extra work, and only reads half of the files . The PC gets confused, The game engine gets confused. If that does not work, Then to hell with NMM, I will have to learn how to use the other mod manager. It seams every time NMM does an Upgrade, it seams to be more of a downgrade, atleast for the last two years. I will let you all know if this trick works. Soulbringer1
Solution to the problem seams to be that you have to have the game on the same drive as NMM . I moved it back to C: drive and everything is installing, "NO .sym links." I guess some games have to be done that way. :)
