Dahveed Posted December 16, 2015 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Greetings Nexus users. I've been playing and modding Oblivion for about 2 years now and I've gotten a pretty good handle on everything. I get the odd crash but sh*t happens, nothing major. My game looks amazing with ENB and texture overhauls. However this one annoying problem has always persisted and I have never figured out how to deal with it. I've posted screenshots so you can see for yourself, it's easier than explaining I think. It's as though the different terrain textures won't cooperate with each other. As far as I understand, Oblivion's game engine is supposed to blend or "morph" the textures into each other so that they overlap and gives the illusion of a more gradual transition from one landscape type to another. But as you can see from my screenshots, this clearly isn't happening. Is this a mod issue? An .ini issue? Or simply an engine limitation? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! mhahn123 Posted December 17, 2015 Share Posted December 17, 2015 This is actually a twofold issue. 1) It's a game engine limitation. 2) It's most likely caused by a mod or mods. There are very few areas in vanilla Oblivion where this issue is visible to even a small extent. So to explain. Any given game cell can only display a total of 9 textures. And each game cell is divided into 4 equally sized quadrants. When altering landscape textures in a cell, if one quadrant of the cell is already "full" so to speak, this is what you end up with. A stark contrast where the textures don't display properly across quadrant lines (or across cell borders). It's easily fixable. If you need a detailed run down on how that's done let me know. Dahveed Posted December 18, 2015 Author Share Posted December 18, 2015 @mhahn123 By all means :) I've already tried disabling all texture mods which I thought might change landscape textures, but it didn't seem to fix the issue. Also iMaxLandscapeTextures didn't seem to have any effect in the .ini (tried 0, 1, 8, 16, etc). Any additional help would be greatly appreciated! mhahn123 Posted December 18, 2015 Share Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Well the 1st step would be to identify what mod is causing the issue. 2nd is to open the mod up in the CS and fix the issue. This involves use of the landscape editor tool. I can walk you through it, but you need to find the root cause first. One thing to suggest, you mentioned disabling mods, if you are using Wrye Bash and a bashed patch you will want that disabled as well while you test mods to find the culprit. Thx! @Dahveedthis is certainly need to dive deep in detail mod structure. only in CELL sectionrecently in your other post that looks like this, I mention Refscope right ?use that mod to identify what land that causing that, because RefScope can hilight any land and get that IDafter you got that ID, next tool is TES4edit. Use this tools to load all your mod,next step is filter by master so you can see override colouring, like red / yellow / green hilightthan search with ID that you got from RefScope beforethere you go, you can see what cell that is overriding.if you sure that land part is not that important just delete that reference then,BUT if you not sure. BFG99 Posted December 18, 2015 Share Posted December 18, 2015 Keep in mind, too, that if you've done any texture replacing, then even if you deactivate all your mods, you could have a problem in the Data/Textures folder. You might try (temporarily) moving that folder out of the Oblivion program folder, AND deactivating mods, to see if that fixes it. From there, you can start adding textures back in until you identify what's causing the problem. Also, one thing I don't know: whether DIstantLOD impacts this in any way. I've done some troubleshooting and as much as I appreciate all your feedback, I've now confirmed that it's not a mod issue but an .ini issue. Using Mod Organizer, I disabled literally every single mod and every plugin. I then removed my /data/texture folder for Oblivion as some have suggested. The problem persisted. Then I disabled the OBSE folder just in case one of my many plugins there were acting screwy... still no change. But when I delete all .ini files (the default /oblivion folder location as well as Mod Organizer's versions) the problem goes away. That tells me something in the .ini folders is screwing things up somewhere. I wish I could narrow it down further. Dahveed Posted December 20, 2015 Author Share Posted December 20, 2015 Please note that I can further confirm my conclusion: I have since re-enabled ALL previously disabled mods through Mod Organizer and re-enabled all OBSE plugins... but booted Oblivion using Vanilla configuration.
