Sparky48776
I swear to god i spend 50% of my time on Fallout messing around with the settlements and I am still not fully satisfied. I've thought of so many ideas for the god damn settlement system and I'm certainty not a mod developer so I'm going to put my ideas out there so if any of you magnificent mod developers come across this post you might have another mod you can make. Unique Settlers I don't know about you but for me the Settlers in fallout are the dullest characters in the game (besides characters like Blake etc.) I never really felt a connection to my people since they all look identical and are just called settlers. They should all at-least have their own names. I came up with a new viewing system for the settlers they could work. When looking at a settler instead of it just saying settler it should look a bit like this: Harvey LeightonFarmerHappyHealthy I think this would be a good addition, it would add some uniqueness to the people in your settlement and you settlers could become sick from too much radiation or injury which would require you to get a doctor. If the person is perhaps sick or distressed it could show why that is. Here are some examples: Mary JadeWeapons TraderDistressed (No Bed/Rads)Sick Johnathon JoeGeneral TraderAverage (Hungry)Hungry Michael HitchmenGuardDistressed (Injured)Injured This would be a really cool addition to the settlement system, it would make your settlement more unique. More Jobs I was surprised while playing fallout that there weren't really any other ways to get wood and steel other then scrapping steel in your settlement or collecting junkit would be cool if you could build a mine where it would automatically mine or your settlers could mine for you, they get silver, gold and iron and you could transfer the iron into steel with some sort of steel foundry, as for wood you could have a logging camp where settlers gather wood and chop trees down.In addition to that you yourself should be able to cut down trees throughout The Commonwealth It would also help to have a well that acted like a water purifier. This would be good for settlements that didn't have a primary water source like a lake or river. Some other jobs: Hunters:They go out and hunt around the outskirts of your settlement Chem Dealers:They are like Doctors accept they sell things like Psycho and Jet whereas Doctors only sell chems like mentats and stimpaks Explorers:They would go on small expeditions and discover new locations and could find treasure perhaps? Better Trading I'm kinda sick of having to have all of my trade posts outside, it would be cool if you could use the counter prop alternatively so you could have like stores and proper taverns and bars. It would also be cool to have old war money. example: Scrap Pistol Value (Caps): 16Value (PWM): 2 Settlement Menu A better Settlement Menu in your pip-boy, You select your settlement and it shows all of your Settlers their names and Problems with the settlement Wanted Board An Object you could place down in your settlement that shows Bounties and Jobs. Well that's all I have to say for now.I will probably add to thisLet me know what you think! Edited December 27, 2015 by Sparky48776
Athanasa
Yoink! Zooming past here to grab all these ideas and add them to a mash-up-hypothetical mod idea / post I was (at some point, maybe in the next week) going to mash out, and also the Settlement Modifications and Improvements post thingy. Also, adding to your jobs idea, more variations on the existing jobs. Let's be able to assign someone to a cooking station to act like a food multiplier (not a replacement for farming). And I'm so glad you mentioned names. I feel that's the one of the most important things that could be added to Settlements - without changing any mechanics - to make them interesting. Now you can have Ivan the Guard, with his room full of anti-tank mines, ammo boxes and gas masks. Or Mrs. Mira, with her room decorated with a broken crib, littered with toys for a lost child. Of course, you decorated these rooms and designed these histories in your head. But with names, you can give settlers lives. You can give them histories and meanings. You can also send them out to die horribly, Dwarf Fortress style. EDIT: Also, a solution to potentially not being able to give people subtitles in the UI (e.g. it being hard to script giving names AND roles in their names without one overriting the other)...Tracy http://i.imgur.com/ypjW5lh.png Alex http://i.imgur.com/bmgQNWm.pngDennis http://i.imgur.com/YUDiWt2.png I haven't got icons for scavenger or anything else yet. I changed the Food icon for the farmer to allow for other food production roles without them having to share the same icon. As for Settlers and better shops, there's a mod that makes 'floor mats' for traders. I haven't used it personally, but I assume it makes you able to make open-front shops like in Diamond City. Athanasa
Post linky. Also in my signature. Or the mod idea one? That isn't a post yet. TBH, I worry that if I make it a post people will think, "Oh, she's making that mod!" rather than it actually being, "PLEASE I HAVE THIS IDEA BUT I CAN'T MAKE s#*!!"
