Brotherhood Overhaul (Conceptual Stage)

I can't remember what the terminal said, I'd have to go back and look at it. I think they wanted something aquatic for whatever reason. Dolphins are bright enough that there's probably a lot you can do with them. Sharks, on the other hand, are almost machines anyway. It's probably the biology department mucking around anyway.

Now I need to go and check the Institute terminals again. I know they were doing the gorilla project, and everyone was scoffing about the child Shaun project, but I can see them doing other animals as well. In fact, I would think that it'd make more sense to do animals before you do people. Like we're cloning monkeys and sheep before we attempt humans (though obviously there's ethics involved with humans, but its bound to happen).

So, NPCs need to be doing proper military training stuff.

  • Firing Ranges. Complete with people in Power Armor watching the training initiates.

I've seen a lot of 'firing ranges' in the commonwealth, but the only time I've seen one in use was in the institute, in a one off scripted event. Definitely should be doable though.

  • BoS members running around in formation (if pathing allows it) in the BoS uniform jumpsuits. Complete with Knight in Power Armor at the front, 'motivating' the troops. And chanted marching songs.
  • NPCs running the assault course? Although I imagine pathing would go mad at that. Off-duty members placing bets on them.

Both of these would need to be scripted events and the second would require a lot of animation work. Probably not worth prioritizing.

  • A Drill Sergeant somewhere, doing what they do best... shouting, I assume?

Easy, though it'll need a good voice actor or some clever rips.

  • PUSH UPS. MORE PUSH UPS. I WANT YOU AS STRONG AS POWER ARMOR! I bet that animation isn't in game, though.

Animation is in, Rhys in the police station does press ups.

Yea it all seems very doable. I'm thinking if we can get a set team together for this, we can focus on someone in charge of the BoS hotspots (Prydwen, Boston Airport, Cambridge Police Station, and Fort Strong) to flesh them out. Don't know if this interests you and Athanasa so far? Figure we can get a team defined now. Outside of a voice actor for the Paladin, most of the work sits in scripting, CK, and FO4Edit outside of designing out the functionality on "paper" (use that term loosely, mostly means Google Docs).

I'd love to contribute. I haven't modded or tinkered with Skyrim or Fallout before, but I used to make missions / scripts for ARMA2. I'm also intending to work on some other mods (stuff to make investing time in settlements worth something), but I have a feeling that maybe-hopefully they'll be... not too bad? Being almost entirely script/values based.

D'you have a website for the planning?

Another small thing that bothers me is that Curie has data on cures to all know diseases to mankind. She even knows how to make an all-in-one cure for all diseases. Why can't we copied all of that valuable data and give it to the Brotherhood? I do know that viruses would be mutated over time I would still think this would be a huge find for the Brotherhood.

That's a point. And I frequently go about adventuring and think, "I really ought to report this place to the Brotherhood." Or, y'know, Danse actually says it: "The Brotherhood could find lots of stuff here."

... Hmm. Maybe specific 'dungeons' (that can be Cleared) are listed as BoS hidden objectives? When you clear them, you get a little radiant quest saying, "Report your findings to the [PERSON]". You return to the airport and hand in the quest, getting a pat on the back and handful of caps for your good work.

Maybe, mechanically, it works by spawning an item ("Location Coordinates"?) in your inventory, which you then hand in like with the Technical Documents and Blood Samples. That way you can clear loads of areas in one sweep (and have it be repeatable, if it's item based rather than location based) and then return with a whole file of map references for the Brotherhood. There you go, motivation for checking every remotely scientific looking hole in the Wasteland.

What bothers me the most about the Curie cure is why it cannot be used on Shaun to cure his cancer. They emphasize how the goal is a cure for everything that ails a human, and that it was fully achieved, and yet its only used either on yourself to knock off a simple debuff, or Austin. The possibilities of having this synthesized either by the Brotherhood or Institute, and then being able to cure everyone (yourself, Austin, and Shaun) seems like a major oversight. I feel as if providing this as an opportunity so Shaun is still there at the end of the Institute would make it an even harder decision to go against him rather than knowing he's just going to die anyway. We may want to investigate doing that. The overhaul IMHO should still provide benefits going the BoS route in indirect ways (such as having a much harder time attacking the institute when Shaun is completely healthy) as well as for those choosing other factions (with the BoS being much more efficient as an enemy).

Honestly I was thinking there would be straightforward salvage missions that you as Sentinel would carry out. Perhaps in earlier stages, you could suggest locations to someone and assuming they were good, returning to the NPC would result in some sort of reward if the salvage run was worthwhile (similar to how it takes time for synth Shaun to create mods from random junk he asks for). At Sentinel, you'd directly order which places to salvage, determine the squad makeup, and be able to join the run. This would lead into the possibility of certain locations being identified as long term holdings, and you'd coordinate setting up a BoS base there (mostly military bases and vaults). For locations that aren't long term, any valuable technology would be permanently removed from the location. I'm thinking all static objects like computers, monitors, the CT scanners you see in some medical locations, etc. Even better, I can see these salvage runs directly impacting the Boston Airport expansion. Salvage a medical facility, and new objects (like the CT scanner) show up in the new medical area Cade's running at the airport. This results in more efficient operations which can express itself as less patients (giving you more troops when coordinating attacks or salvage runs), quicker recovery for any injuries, and better selection as a vendor. Perhaps this can also lead to opening up implants again (similar to New Vegas, and what the Brotherhood offered in Fallout 1 and 2).
