ElioraArin
I am also dying for a solid creamy palomino, & I am not even remotely interested in adapting textures myself - I really just want to play! - so I am definitely restricted to what others have created. I guess everyone has different taste!
kittybrod
Yeah. The reason why I am so willing to spend this time retexturing is I have already played the game, done the Civil War, finished the main quest and many of the side quests. So now I want to make the game what *I* want, and before I can start over, I have to put some distance between myself and the game (I am not the type of person that can start a game like 20 times, I remember the beginning too well, and lose interest so I need to let my memory fade) So I am doing this and hopefully it won't take over like Morrowind did (I got too many mods for morrowind and since I REALLY like 'unique' unique items instead of items with different names and stats but the same mesh/textures as the original, I started retexturing a lot of stuff to make the mods use unique items, and never got to the game again :() That is another reason I am trying to keep my mod list light. ElioraArin
Once you start modding you become addicted - initially I just wanted to add a few cooking recipes & now I'm designing a food overhaul, a player house for the start of the game & my horse mod, not to mention clothing & armor crafting recipes for all my favourite mods & a couple of small things along the way ... I'm sure I'll be distracted by yet ANOTHER thing to try soon
kittybrod
I know how you feel. I was that way in Morrowind. I am somewhat the same way here, except the CK scares me, so I haven't really looked into making my own house mod or things like that. I sort of want to get some of the weapon retextures and additions and armor resources out there into game by making them craftable recipes, but that is for another day. If at all. As I said earlier, I have found a unicorn mod (two of them but I believe they use the same mesh) and I noticed that those unicorns use the same textures Oblivion horses did. I have some gorgeous Oblivion horse textures. I am fighting the urge to make 100s of unicorns using Slof's and Zira's Oblivion Horse textures. (I already know that at least SOME of them will be made as there are some textures I REALLY loved). BUT, I have a bad habit of starting something, getting distracted, and moving on, then having a hard time getting back into the first thing I was doing. So I am trying to make sure to at least get the textures done so I can add them to existing horse mods if I absolutely cannot get them into game on my own. ElioraArin
I nearly finished a humble but nice beginner home for the player & 2 children just outside Riverwood, then realised while in Riverwood during a test that I must have unintentionally made some wild edits doing the landscaping that messed up a nearby area of ETAC. I had to scrap the entire exterior as I couldn't fix it no matter what I tried. It was gutting. Thank god I hadn't gone as far as navmeshing etc yet. Even so I had been so happy with it so ... I haven't touched my house since :(
kittybrod
Navmeshing is one reason I haven't even TRIED to make any house mods etc.. Yeah, I can imagine. I can't really remember running into things like that when I was modding, but even so, to put that much effort into something and then have to scrap it... I wouldn't be able to touch it. If I ever do make a house (and this is a huge if with connotations that it will never be done) it would be FAR to the north or out to sea somewhere. Where hopefully it wouldn't interfere with anything. It would also probably be completely empty except for tables and chests, no NPCs (not that I am that fond of NPCs in house mods anyways) no quest etc.. But Navmeshing is a HUGE obstacle. ElioraArin
The exterior was a nightmare, I hated landscaping, but the interior is really enjoyable - I had a lot of fun with that. I will be redoing the inside just because I have learned more things I want to implement since then, & I have been given a great bath resource that means I will change the interior set up quite a bit, probably to include 2 follower beds in the basement since I will no longer need it for a big dwarven bath (the door can easily be disabled via console for people who don't want followers & it will be like it isn't even there). kittybrod
Sounds great. Yeah, in morrowind I was building a huge ranch off in the ocean, and using wooden planks, I built myself a nice little balcony :D Had fun with that. Yeah, for me, house mods must be follower friendly. Since I got AFT I now have 4 of them. And with the crazy horses of Skyrim, I don't even NEED the followers, the horses take care of anything that come close (word of advice. do not, I repeat do NOT singe the horses, they are apparently very sensitive. I haven't had them turn on me, or my followers yet, but I have seen them chase down dragons. And I haven't even changed any settings except made them essential.) But I really like BIG house mods, not only for all my junk that I collect, but also because I like exploring and large rooms and plenty of space to sprawl out in :)
ElioraArin
I'm a bit the opposite, I desperately want a simple starter home for the beginning that looks pleasant but humble & isn't huge with all amenities - there are a few around, but not very many in the right area that allow you to adopt a couple of kids, & I want to be able to give a home to the children I encounter early in the game immediately. I should get back into that mod, other people may get use out of it too.
kittybrod
See, I am also not very interested in adopting kids. Of all the DLCs, Hearthfire would be the last one I would get and then only for the ability to build houses. Other than that, nope, kids can stay away from me :) Yeah, I do get tired of seeing houses with all the amenities just sitting around with thousands and thousands of septims of loot just sitting there ready for the taking. That is one reason any house mod I ever made would be empty. It would have been looted of all the valuable stuff long ago, and just had the regular furniture and chests left. Maybe one or two high level locked chests, but nothing else.
