Plugins.txt keeps wiping my mods.

I use the Nexus mod manager to download and install all my mods for FO4. I was using LOOT to manage load order of my addons when I got a message saying it couldn't write to the plugins file, and I assumed it was because plugins.txt was read only. I made plugins.txt not read only, applied the LOOT load order settings, then made it read only again. Now whenever I load FO4 it wipes the plugins.txt file of all my addons. I made a copy of the file before it wiped so I can add all the plugins back in, but how do I prevent the game from wiping the file so I can use my mods?

are you using the latest NMM?

I believe what it does is make the file read/write for itself, and then reset it back to read only on exit.

so, you probably need to reset the attributes manually before using loot.

then after using NMM, reset the attributes again, use LOOT again, and then reset it back to read only.

...and don't use the game launcher, just run the direct EXE instead.

should work.

or, there might be an option within NMM (since Loot is popular) to actually have it look to the LOOT load order tables instead of its default load order tables, in which case you should be good to go.

No such luck... it rewrites plugins.txt the moment I launch the game whether through Steam, from the launcher .exe, or from fallout4.exe...

Set NMM to not shut off when you run the game. After it brings up the launcher, if the mods have all unchecked inside NMM, then NMM may not be updated properly to the latest version. Since the latest update, I know it specifically takes over the plugins.txt file by making it read-only and prior to, you'd see all the mods get unchecked when NMM ran the Launcher or executable. If you guaranteed have the latest, it could also be a permissions thing where NMM is not running as admin and therefore not able to lock down the plugins.txt file. I'd check to make sure it always runs as admin. Barring that, I'd download a new copy of NMM to guarantee the latest copy.
