Drazhar753 Posted January 3, 2016 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Hey all! So I just saw the new star wars and had an idea of what I'd like to do when the CK is released. I really liked the whole scavenging the wastes, wreckages of gargantuan engines of war. I also noticed during playing FO4 (and disabling the map boundaries) that there is a HUGE amount of unused land outward from the map borders, it lacks detail and things like flora and fauna, but this is a very exciting prospect for me. As the most daunting part for me of wanting to make/expand a map is having to make the base terrain (like the hills/contours and whatnot, and making it look natural) but that's already there. But as I said, there is a huge amount of space, I just turned on autorun and left my comp and came back 10mins later and still hadn't reached any visible edge; just mountainous terrain. I'd love to populate that area bit at a time with wasteland-wilderness, ruined towns, lakes, rivers and caves. Not really based on any real location just open wasteland. Along with survival mods which are already seeing work the idea of having to survive out in the vast wastes would be bad-ass, especially finding ruined tanks, vertibirds, and things to scavenge for parts. I mean sure we have a large wasteland now, but it's not all that hard to find a friendly area where you can restock. Thinking back to Skyrim that was one of my gripes with survival mods, I loved them but I never once found myself struggling for food or shelter as there's towns/cities all over the place. Less-so in Fallout 4 but you get what I mean. Anyhow I will be looking into starting this soon as the CK is available. I found the map to be too small... packed with things to do, yes, but small. hearing how much land there is, I would be careful with adding your own content in them just yet, would suck for people to do tons of work, and then an official xpac places stuff there. Would definitely be nice to see something to explore out there, possibly add a more country vs city feel to it out there, some roaming gangs of scavengers checking out old war tech that didn't make it to the coast....Can see a lot being done with it. Yeah I did think of that also, that they may use that space for dlc, but I am just used to bethesda always making their dlc areas behind load doors. Ya I was glad to find tons of room to work with outside the normal boundaries as well. Once the Nifskope beta is released I could definitely start making some new mutated fauna and such to create a vast landscape. The one thing I would say would make a mod like this 10x better would be to focus on expanding in one direction. I am getting tired of square or almost square game worlds, because it limits the ability to have a really long journey. Even the biggest open world games don't take all that long to get from one corner to the other, because they are so square. I would like to expand the map west to the point where the game world is at least 5x bigger east to west than it is north to south. Then put something really awesome at the end of that long travel that you must really have to earn by taking this long journey. I'm thinking along the lines of when people traveled the Oregon Trail and it was hard to survive the terrain and the lack of supplies and it took a long time to make it to your destination, not just 15 minutes. My mod is going in a totally different direction, but one of my initial ideas was something along these lines, and I would like to help out if I can. I was thinking expanding west mostly, as that what the way I traveled and found a lot of empty land, I'd probably expand outwards south too though, as I love the glowing sea and would like to expand that and add more to it. Perhaps as you go 'beyond the border' you come across more noteworthy locations. I for one would love to explore a ruined cityscape under glowing sea conditions. Yeah that's what I was thinking, the western expanse in my mind is very much going to be badlands where there is far more wilderness than cityscape, but interesting wilderness hopefully.
