Hey Guys/Girls

I was thinking about releasing a modded apk to change the map inside of the pipboy companion app but the legality of it is questionable so I decided to write a small guide instead.

Prerequisites

APKStudio

JDK

A rooted android device

root explorer installed on your android device

pipboy companion app installed on your device.

A little patients

Foreword

i am not responsible for broken devices.

This is not a guide to rooting your device and in no shape way or form is this a recommendation to root your device. If you root your device your warranty is lost and you risk a multitude of bugs. That all being said and out of they way on with the guide.

Steps

  1. Install required Prerequisites above.
  2. Run root explorer and navigate to /mnt/asec/com.bethsoft.falloutcompanionapp-1/ or /data/app/com.bethsoft.falloutcompanionapp-1/ (you will see the right folder depending on your device and android version).
  3. Hold over base.apk and select 'copy'.
  4. Navigate to the root of your sdcard and select 'Copy Here'.
  5. connect your device to your pc/laptop with apkstudio installed and copy base.apk to your desktop.
  6. In apkstudio select file/Open/APK and select the base.apk you move to your pc earlier.
  7. Leave the paths so it creates a folder on your desktop press decode (this may take a few mins depending on the speed of your computer).
  8. Open the new 'base folder' on your desktop. then open 'assets'
  9. Copy the CompanionWorldMap.png outside of the folder somewhere safe(in case you want to change it back ).
  10. Download the attached CompanionWorldMap.png and replace the original in the assets folder.
  11. back to apkstudio select /Project/Build (Again this might take a few moments)
  12. When you see 'Process exited with code 0' in apkstudio's Console you can close apkstudio.
  13. Move base.apk back to your android device.
  14. Open root explorer and move the base.apk back to /mnt/asec/com.bethsoft.falloutcompanionapp-1/ allowing root request
  15. Hold over base.apk and select permission set as shown in image. http://i.imgur.com/S0JXju7.png
  16. That's it your all done.

Set your pipboy colors to white in game to show most color in the companion app.

Great work! I'm working on a Vault Girl Mod that will replace many of the vault boys. This may mean it'll be possible for some to get it working on their phone too.

The swf inside of the phone app is similar if not the same as the ones inside of the pc game.

Modding the Android Pip-Boy Companion App  or download from apkbar map involves modifying the application's code and assets to customize the in-game map experience. This process typically requires a rooted Android device, which allows access to the app's internal files. Once rooted, you can use file explorer apps to navigate to the Pip-Boy app's directory and locate the map files. These files can then be extracted and edited using various graphic design tools to alter the map's appearance, such as adding new icons, changing colors, or incorporating additional features. After making the desired changes, the modified files are then placed back into the app's directory, replacing the original ones. Additionally, some users might utilize specialized modding tools or community-created patches that simplify the process and ensure compatibility with the app's latest version. As with any modding endeavor, it's important to back up the original files to avoid potential issues and to ensure that the device's security settings are properly configured to handle these modifications.
