does anyone know how to up the number of things you can build in a settlement and the number of people that can live in them?

While in settlement drop weapons on ground. Go into build mode and STORE the weapons. Transfer weapons to you and repeat. Watch the bar at the top right as you do so.

Works fine for me too. Just make sure your system can handle the extended settlement. Imho they implemented this limit to make sure consoles and low end pcs can handle everything.

 

As to more settlers: more charisma (limit should be 10 + your charisma). Or you can install mods of course - like http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/828/?

Settler limit is as stated above at base 10+ charisma so 20 max at base. With clothing and various drugs you can get it to 40 or 41 max although due to the limited duration of chems this will require moving settlers from other settlements to the one(s) you want to get that large.

 

And of course there are mods that increase/removes the limits.

There is a console command too for the build limit if you can't be bothered to keep dropping stuff.

 

Click on the workbench in console

• getav 349 - Will show the maximum value of the triangle budget for the settlement.
• getav 34B - Will show the maximum value of the draw call budget for the settlement.

then

• setav 349 <value> - Will set the maximum value of the triangle budget for the settlement.
• setav 34B <value> - Will set the maximum value of the draw call budget for the settlement.
