Laurien
I know theres a million threads like this out there but none of them give straight forward answers. I've downloaded a few mods today like Rens beauty patch and the Sharingin patch however when i make a new character the name of the eyes show up but the eyes are jet black and when you get past ponytail hair the name of the new hairs come up but its still stays as a ponytail can somebody please help me? Just noticed that the modded scythes i put in the game are just coming up as big black and yellow exclamation signs.
NeonPeanut
I am having the exact same problem! Well, besides the Sharingin patch, I don't have that. Someone please help us!
Telyn
My best guess is both of you have conflicting cosmetics mods. Funny looking eyes is a common symptom of that. Yellow boxes mean you are missing meshes, or the game can't find them (usually because of a bad install). Make sure you don't have a data folder inside the data folder. That's where files tend to end up if you installed incorrectly. Installing an OMOD that has an incorrect OMOD structure is a quite common reason this can occur. I recommend running BOSS, then running Wrye Bash to resolve any cosmetic mod clashes. Unfortunately, I do not have Hickory's awesome picture illustrations on how to use Wrye Bash properly. Strongly suggest looking for one of Hickory's posts that answers a similar question and read the bash instructions too. Why use BOSS? When mods conflict, the one last loaded "wins" in Oblivion. This makes load order really important. BOSS uses a huge database of an enormous number of mods to tell you what order you should put them in.Why use Wrye Bash? Wrye Bash is kind of a Swiss Army knife. It contains sophisticated tools which can help you make your mods play nicely with each other. I'm sorry if this isn't "straight forward" enough. Explaining Wrye Bash in a post would be very difficult if not impossible. It would be better if you look at Hickory's pictures and read the documentation. I am just not good enough at summarizing it without garbling everything. Sorry. Another thing that helps a lot is if you post your mod list under the spoiler tag. Otherwise people reading this thread have to make wild guesses about what is causing your problem, which is what I just did. Without that, you won't get as many answers and the answers won't be as good. If your post is vague, the answers probably will be, too. There are so many mods out there it is just impossible to guess what mods may be causing problems for you or conflicting.
SavageArtistry
Black in the character creator can also mean missing textures (or incorrect file paths to the textures) by the way.

NeonPeanut
Well...heh...could someone tell me how to take an in-game screenshot. A basic one. I don't know how. Also, this seems to be a pretty difficult problem, considering when Laurien started the thread and how there is no definite answer on Google. I don't know if there is a sure-fire way to fix it. I still want to try of course.
bben46
It's a pretty old thread. You may do better making a new one when you have a problem instead of piggy backing on someone elses thread. Actually there is a straight forward answer. You have a mod conflict. Now, the not so straightforward part is finding it. There is no magic here you must troubleshoot as there is no one answer. We have over 20,000 mods with 20,000 possible problems and just about that many possible solutions.Eye problems are actually fairly easy. You have 2 or more mods that want to control how eyes look and they are fighting over it. You must remove any mods that make changes to eyes to get back to vanilla (unmodded) eyes. Some custom races make changes to eyes, any mod that makes changes to beauty will usually mod eyes, and a few tou may not expect also. That's why we asked for a mod list as some of us will know which mods can cause eye problems. I have answered this question many times. You have been googling the wrong terms - try googly eyes, black eyes, no eyes and limit the search to Oblivion.
NeonPeanut
I don't usually piggy-back, as you say, it's just he was able to describe it better. I typed "Oblivion eyes are black" in Google search and all I got were videos to fix Ren's problems and links to websites where people asked about the same problem, all leading to the conclusion that Ren's was behind it, which doesn't apply to me because the only other cosmetic mod I have is HGEC, which shouldn't be affecting males. Other than that, I have one race mod that adds eyes textures, and does not change any. Anyways, I uninstalled Ren's Beauty Pack and the eyes look normal again. I don't usually get cosmetic mods in the first place, so that couldn't be the problem.
