Alright, not sure if this is the right section, I did a quick search and found no answers (lack of thread or typical male blindness? I'll find out) but anyway... I am looking into becoming an Animator, but the only program I have is from www.blender.org (their latest and greatest free software)

What I mainly would like to know is if Blender Animation is compatible to use for Oblivion's posing and movement?

One of the reasons I am anxious to know this is because I want to Animate for a big project mod like the one listed Here and already have some concepts for each of the 5 skill levels for various skills (Athletics, Acrobatics, Sneak, spellcasting, etc...) to get one thing straight, I want a European fantasy setting, not more Anime, at least not in a first version (hell, maybe I'll make a second world of animations if I have the time, I watch those toons too..)

I would be hesitant to animate for swords/blunts/bows unless I know there can be proper compatibility measures taken for deadly reflex or unnecessary violence and others, but if the coder I work with assures me it's no big deal, I'll be happy to do those as well.

I think that's all my queries for now, will be happy to hear from the community.

From what i've read, Blender is compatible although im not sure what file type they use.

I commendate you on being able to use blender, i tried it through ubuntu studio and then went to Hospital with severe head explosion.

I started with This.

Sometimes it helps going through a brief kindergarten before you get to Anything else. Helps you wrap your mind around it.

If you want to strangle the guy for babytalking you, suppress it with a rubber-band wrist or whatever you have =p

It's worth it

Blender animation IS compatible with Oblivion's posing and movement in the sense that you can import and export animations into/from Blender, and that you can define modify those animations in Blender. But all with certain limitations compared to 3DS Max, the tool Bethesda was using, but which is not for free (to say the least).

But I strongly recommend that you don't learn from Blender's documentation. You could severely be mistaken, what is possible, and what you can do. The most severe discrepancy is, that you can only use Blender 2.49 due to interface compatibilities.

Go to our Wiki (not the CS Wiki which is outdated with respect to animation), and to the 3D Modelling -> Blender forum. There is enough information and many tutorials which get you started the right way: from Oblivions point of view.
