Are there any tutorials for Skyhold outfit re-texture modding?

I have been creating the textures in photoshop, the problem is I don't know how to save the files as they need to be or how to use the mod maker to get them into the game. One that covers normal maps and spec maps as well would be great, I get how they work but I'm fairy inexperienced at creating them.

I've been looking but there is so much information to sift through and I have limited time. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

I have learned it also with the link from roberts2432 ( Duster in the Wind ) and with the help of various forum posts, like this one: http://daitools.freeforums.org/creating-pajama-textures-t1222.html

What do you want to know about the normal map? I would like to offer you my help if you need it.

Normal map is for the "3D effect": folds, curvatures, etc. As brighter the color ( blue ) the higher the effect and dark ( violet/pink ) for the deep effect.

For example:

Normal

As you can see, I take at first dark blue for the deep effect and light blue for the increase.

If you have skin parts, make at the normal map the same color as the background - this makes it smooth.

You don't have to delete the background, I just make it for future pj's. ( because I'm lazy )

For the skin parts you simply have to delete these parts.

Here the same applies: as brighter the color, the more shiny. If you want something like metal, then you use blue. Brown is matt like cloth, dark green and light green is medium like leather.

Tint

Same here, for the skin parts you simply have to delete these parts. ( I use the second image from the link as a template for the colors )

You don't have to make it transparent, sometimes it's just for a better result. Red is cloth, green is leather or can also be metal and blue is "strongly shiny" metal.

Export all files as .dds and you can import it with ModMaker. Beware of the size, they should all be 4'097KB as .dds

The .dds plugin for Photoshop can be downloaded from the internet - export file as .dds with Photoshop - open ModMaker and navigate to ( for example ) ef_inquisitor_var2_core_0111_d.dds ( diffuse ) - Import your file. Make the same with normal, specular and tint - Save as [ file name ]. ( Save all four files together as one file )

Let me know if you have any questions!

Beautiful PJs!

And thanks for the info! I'll be giving this a try! My biggest obstacle is opening the Normal map in Paint.net (I'm totally cheap), but I think I've figured out how to use the compressonator. I just hope it will upload it properly after I'm done altering it. Fingers crossed.

I apologize for my long post, I wasn't sure what you wanted to know. ^__^'

I unfortunately don't know much about Paint.NET but if you're more familiar with GIMP than Photoshop, it also works with this program. I create my pj's always with GIMP 2 - if you wish, I can make you a little tutorial about it on occasion? :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
